I feel I'm well equipped to answer this.u say the older model but then say what about the newer model.if u have the money to afford the newer model well then get the newer one. Bought cars suffer similar problems as do all mercs to be honest.ok the older model the engine is ok gave a small bit of trouble with the exhaust manifold cracking.the front suspension gives trouble in the form of front springs break and bottom ball joints go also as do the track rod ends. But there are cheap to repair also on the rear of them the rear metal brake pipes will need replacing these problems are specific to the older and newer model only advantage is if u buy the older theses jobs should of being carried out already. But that could also be said for the 2003 one also. Happy hunting and if u need any more advice just ask

My apologies I didn't relies u said 220 cdi.bad engine to be honest.gives plenty of injector trouble, manifold trouble and inlet port shut off motor trouble. But then again u could buy one with all this done, but I will tell u the 220 and 270 cdi engines have problems with the injectors seating there always leaking injectors, easy job for someone that knows them and for some one that doesn't, that could lead to trouble

    thats perfect,
i dont mind minor stuff but things like troublesome injectors and that i tend to stay clear of.
    thanks

Yeah the injectors are common but when u have the right lad that knows the engine fixing them ud be grand.main problem is the bolt that holds the injector clamp the bolt goes into the head and the treads fill with carbon. People tend to replace the bolt and not clean the internal treads and then they snap the bolt in the head. Making a 20min job into a head off the engine job. U wouldn't beleave how many times people have brought cars into our place with the bolts snapped in the head. U won't go far wrong once u have main dealer service history

Hi swhyte027, you seem to be a bit of a Mercedes guru!

    I'm thinking of buying a post 2006 factlift E Class, a E200 Kompressor.

Is there anything I should look at in particular? I will be avoiding the pre facelift up to 2006 model.

I work for bm and merc specalist.e200 engine requires a timing chain change at 80k r so I've said that plenty of times hear suffers a lot of trouble with vacuum pipes.but for someone that knows them it's fairly straight forward

Is that 80,000 miles or km for the TC change on an E200 Kompressor, and how much would that cost?

Yeah, the timing chain in these cars looks like the one on my bike. Why they stopped making cars properly? Commercial rubish, when you see a 20 year old proper Merc that never needs a new timing chain and injectors last for ever.

Absolute rubish they are we do at least one of them a week in our place
