As the title says I need to back up iTunes and iPhoto especially iPhoto as I have a lot of photos I need backing up to a external hard drive. What is the best way of doing this?I bought lion on the app store and I'm having terribable trouble with my Mac ever since as suggestited on here I need to do a clean install but how do I go about this as I don't have the disk for lion? I only have the disk for snow lepored as it came with my Mac when I purchased new last year.any help/tips very much welcome.

There's more than one question here.

Easiest way to back up is by connecting an external Hard Drive and clicking "OK" when the "Use this for Time Machine" alert pops up.

Best way (for what you want to achieve) is to use Carbon Copy Cloner (free) to copy your internal Hard Drive contents to an external.

For a clean install of "Lion" copy your download onto a USB stick. This has been described on several web sites so a quick search should find the instructions.

Once "Lion" has been installed, immediately use "Migration Assistant" (it will pop up automatically) to import your files from the cloned backup.

Thank you that's exactly what I wanted to know!
