Time Capsule

Looking at both NAS and time capsule. The NAS might be a bridge too far technically, so just a couple of questions if anyone can oblige.

    My current setup is:

2010 iMac, with Windows 7 installed via Parallels 5.0. (200GB allocated to the Windows side).

External Seagate 2TB HDD Windows format (I can access this from the Mac side if I don't have Windows booted up).

My main priorities are my Music (not iTunes) and Photos (not iPhoto) folders, which are accessible from Finder and My Computer on both OS.

If I go for Time Capsule, can I access the drive as I do the Seagate at the moment? And can both OS access it?

Sorry if I'm not explaining it too clearly.

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards,

    Freddie.

For me the time capsule disk appears as a samba share on osx (sl) and a network share on windows (xp pro). The time machine backup is only visible to osx.
There's also a usb port on it that you can plug in an external drive (or printer in my case) for sharing over the network.
I also have a separate NAS as my time capsule is only 500gb.

    I have a Synology 2TB NAS

The software allows me to set the NAS up as Mac as well as everything else

Its plugged into my router and When I launch Time Machine it finds the NAS and then creates what I can only describe as its own partition and then backs up to the NAS

When on the Mac it show me two devices sharing, The NAS and Time Machine

Its not that technical and in fact the software does all the hard part, you just need to click ok

The narrower a man’s mind, the broader his statements.
