Italy - which beach area with nightlife?

Hi, I am in the beginning stages of planning a holiday to Italy for May/June for my boyfriend and myself (late 20s early 30s). I was thinking of flying into Rome and spend about 4 nights there -- take the train to Florence and spend a few nights there then end with 6 or so nights on a beach nearby. The perfect place would be both walking distance to a beach (or on it)/beautiful scenery and walking distance to restaurants for dinner and some nightlife -- bars/pubs, etc.

I was looking at an area close to Pisa called Viareggio but have heard mixed reviews. I could also reorganize the trip to stop in Florence first then head to Rome and to a beach after that if there was an area closer to Rome that would suit.

Please let me know if you have any suggestions! Thanks

Rimini would be lively but maybe the wrong direction from Florence for you. Check it out anyway.

I caught the train from Florence to Rimini a few years ago and iirc, it took a couple of hours and you change at Bologna.

We went in May and stayed Pisa, Florence, Rimini, Venice and Verona after flying to/from Milan.

Rimini is ok, not sure about the scenery as it came across a bit like Benidorm.

You could maybe consider getting up to Venice as well and staying in Lido De Jesolo.

Great country, lovely helpful people especially if you try and speak a bit of Italian, they appreciate the effort.

Oh yeah, don't forget to validate your ticket before you board a train.

Thanks very much. I looked into Rimini a bit and heard some of the same about the scenery... Venice is definitely an option as well although not sure if I would get that relaxed atmosphere I would like to incorporate into this trip as I would be compelled to do so much sightseeing!

The train system appears to be robust in Italy and thus I would consider travelling farther than originally intended to get that mix of beautiful beach, relaxed atmosphere and good nightlife within walking distance of hotel... how about Naples? or an island town? (I know I would have to take a boat).. any other suggestions?

    Thanks
