What do you do with yours?

I presume the avid brewers among you like to brew often- trying different recipes and ideas out etc.. but if you're making 80 or even 40 pints a go that's a lot of beer to get through!

I like beer but it would take me a fair while to get though 80 pints.

Do you give yours to friends - or do swops with other brewers so that instead of having 40 pints of ale you might have 20 ale and 20 stout or what have you?

Or hoard it for months on end?

I've only done two batches, first batch I ended up having a BBQ and sharing my wares with my mates.

Second batch turned out a lot nicer and I'm happy to consume it myself!

They were both 23 litre brews, next time I will probably make smaller batches and try some more unusual brews.

Every time I get 4 brews done and conditioned I have 2 or 3 beer tastings where I invite different groups of friends over to try the new beers.

My only rule is to bring 1 craft beer each yet sometimes the beer gifts get "tasted" at the event also. I don't give any tasting notes (not able to :() so I just tell them what style it is and go from there. :)

I have, at the very least, managed to convince all of them to consider beer quality before going to a pub.:pac:

I've been thinking the same thing, my college lifestyle won't let me drink a lot during the week, and I'm happy that way, I don't want this batch beside me to be an excuse to drink more.

But if you get forty pints out of it, that's just 6 six packs, which you should drink handy enough on a night in/out.

But yeah, one of the lads just got on to me and offered to swap a bunch of bottles of mine for his, which is pretty handy as he's really skilled at it. I think I might do that when I get goign on multiple brews, swapping them with people.

You.... write a dissertation on it?

No, I get it. You drink it, semi fermented, in your underpants, for breakfast, while watching Judge Judy.

    Funny enough, one of the potential economics dissertation topics offered by a lecturer this year was;

"Is there collusion within the Irish beer industry?"

Heh. Interesting... They do collaborate on stuff like draught specs but they are quite open about it.

I'm onto Batch number 4 at this stage, I cant get enough of Brewing,

My first Batch was for Christmas but while that was going I made some Mead to be ready for the Spring, should be good for tasting in Late March.

When I had Bottled and conditioned my first lot I bought another fermenter and kicked off a Cervesa and a Traditional Larger.

My first batch was a Pils and it was great to be able to give a few bottles to friends and family with pressies for Christmas,

One of my uncles loved it and kept a few bottles aside so when I called over the other day he pulled them out and we enjoyed them, it was a nice surprise and the Pils had matured nicely (I wish I had kept a few more for longer than three weeks conditioning)

The two current brews are in need of bottling with the last week, they were started December 21st so its well past time!

One is for a friends Stag as a surprise, as I'm the best Man, the other is for the wedding. So far no one is blind but I cant wait to bottle everything off and start another one and bottle the mead and kick off a cider for the summer!

The key thing about giving away beer is ensuring that everyone is aware that the beer is a gift but the bottles need to be returned...

    Happy brewing!
