What is the requirements for obtaining a deer hunting licence. Do you have to do a deer stalking course, permissions etc... Any help would be grateful

No course required for the licence from the parks and wildlife service. You need the Hcap for a lease on state forestry, but not for permission on private. Private land must have deer on it, the land owner will be contacted by the npws.

It's pretty painless and quick once you have permission and the farmer folio number. (if you don't already have a gun the right calibre you will need to put a deposit on one first, as details of this are required)

Although the folio number will speed things up a good bit it's not strictly necessary but definitely preferred for a speedy processing of your application.

In my case the local ranger called out for a visit to the land I have permission on and after a wee walk around she was satisfied she had seen evidence of deer being present and had a good working idea of the boundaries of the land and that was that.
