    Hi all
Just want to confirm that a 2000 A140 would have a chain, and not a timing belt?

Can chains snap just like timing belts? Should they be changed at intervals?

    Thanks,
    Jonny

theyre chain driven, and yes chains can snap, mostly due to being starved of oil, if cared for right they can last a 'lifetime'. timing chains have become a lot less expensive in recent years.

They are chain driving and do give troubl.the require a chain and tensioner change between 80 and 100k usually but there are exceptions to that.also I order to do the job the engine is required to be dropped out of the car.was one of the first jobs I was tasked with in my current location a few years back and have done Afew since

Yes, contrary to motoring myth, chains do snap. And often greater damage when they do.

The recent e-Class have known timing chain issues that Mercedes are well aware of and REFUSE to stand over when they snap.
