Ski or Snowboard - which should I try?

    Hi,

Heading up the mountain next week for what might be a one-off experience. Never snowboarded or skied before.

Would it be a really bad idea to try and snowboard if I'm only going for one day? Should I stick to skiing?

Have to say it's very cheap. Bus up, ski/board rental, clothes rental and lift pass are 32 euro altogether. So I think I may avail of such prices more than once while I'm here.

But just in case it's a one-off which should I do?

    Thanks.

I've only ever done skiing myself, but a fried of mine who is a snowboarder has a good logic. If you are used to boarding on a skateboard or surfboard, then snowboarding will probably come more naturally to you. If not, then skiing might be the best option.

I'm no expert, and others on here will shed more light I'm sure.

    Enjoy!

For one day, prob doesn't really matter too much?

Personally I progressed a lot more in one day skiing then snowboarding. I think generally you can make more progress skiing in a shorter time, but it takes longer to improve your technique. And snowboarding in the beginning stages can be quite painful!

Skiing, you will spend more time standing up and moving than you will on aboard but over the long term it is much harder to perfect.

Boarding ; for the early part you will be spending most of your time on your rear end and less time riding but easier to perfect once you get up and start doing it.

If just for one day, go skiing. The first couple of days snowboarding can be a bit frustrating and painful. I would estimate you need at least 3 days on a snowboard before you make much progress. As Fattes says, with skiing you’ll be on your feet and be able to progress up and down the slopes with much more ease as a beginner.

    As others have said...

Skiing, easier to pick up, harder to perfect.
Boaring, potentially painful to pick up, easier to perfect.

So for a one possibly one off trip to just see if you like the snow/ mountains then go skiing. You can decide which you think is the cooler way to get down the mountain on the next trip. *

    * The answer is skiing. ;)
