Just looking at some of the odds for this and i think Ivory Coast are a decent price at 13/8 with the players they have including both toures, Check Tiote, Drogba, Kalou, Gervinho and Doumbia.

Also in the top goalscorer markets Demba Ba is 4/1 joint favourite with Drogba but Doumbia is a massive 20/1 for it so there is 3 bets i will be taking.

    Any other opinions on this?

Recent history points to the North African countries Egypt (DNQ) having won the last three and Tunisia the one before that; although both had the advantage of hosting their wins.

On another side note; 20 out of the last 25 hosts (or one of them when joint) have made the semi-finals, with 11 of them winning it. Can't say I know enough about either Gabon or Equatorial Guinea though.

Backed Senegal (7/1) myself, although they have moved a fair bit since that 7/1 still with corbetts? 6/1 is about but alot of blue on oddschecker and most leaning towards 5/1.

The draw is set up so Senegal and Ivory Coast shouldnt meet until the final (should they both win there groups and get that far). If they get to that stage, the Senegal price is the one I'd rather be on.

Thinking Senegal are going to win this myself. Have probably the best squad out of all the teams in the ACON.

Will be interesting to see some irrelgular betting patterns during the games. Id say everyone remembers the 4-4 draw in the last tournanment:pac:

I wonder how profitable backing the overs will be in most games.. might look into past tournaments.

This tournament will be a betting frenzy! Host teams bound to do well regardless of talent!

I'm tempted by kalou at 20/1 for top scorer. Think Ivory coast will go far so should play a lot of games. Hes got 14 goals in 41 app for Ivory coast which isnt amazing but I think 20/1 is a bit of value

Just wondering will Doumbia even get this place, PP are not even quoting him in the betting

Scored in the last two friendlies as well, might have a small go myself.

I was thinking they would play a front 3 of:

    Doumbia---Drogba----Gervinho

    could be wrong though

Was thinking cisse for the top scorer?

What makes you think Ivory Coast will not choke this time? Yes they have a great attack but their defense is poor. They only beat Lybia 1-0 in a friendly on Monday...

My favourites for the ANC are Ghana - they seem to have the right mentality and the Ayew brothers are in great form; and Morocco because I rate their coach Gerets.

Ghana to win @ 5.50 for me.

I think that's a dreadful price. Consider that it's a 16 team tournament and you're not even getting 2/1. Spain were the raging favourites for the world cup 2 years ago and they were 4/1 at best beforehand.

Now I know that you can't compare the WC and the AN in terms of quality of opposition but if previous tournaments are anything to go by it should show that a lot of upsets can happen. On that note I'm going to lay them at this price.

    I've got €20 on Senegal at 11/2.

Very same - €20 on Senegal.

I'd personally avoid Ivory Coast or other teams with well known Premiership players - it seems a lot of people only know those players and bet on the teams with familiar names. Which would just get you bad odds.

At least that's my theory. :)

Only the one outright bet for me -

Top Goalscorer - Papis Cisse @ 14/1 (Ladbrokes)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 203 ✭✭bazwin

    Top goalscorer

    - Dark Horse

Jerome Ramtlhakwane (Botswana) 33/1 on boyles

joint top goal scorer in qualifying;)

    Senegal are overrated.

Have to say I like the look of either a Doumbia 14/1 bet or Asamoah Gyan at 7/1 for top goalscorer.. Drogba won't play all the games and their coach rates Doumbia highly. He's been banging in the goals in Russia. Looks a decent player.

Would not go near the Ivory Coast at 6/4. I think they were a similar price LTO. Ghana are a more realistic price but I'll stick to match betting.

Loving the match report from the bbc from Senegal v Zambia. Senegal coach says

"Zambia caused us a lot of discomfort and did more running. "

Are Kenya in it this year?nap.

    My bets

    Top goalscorer

    Doumbia 2 points e.w
    Gyan 1 point

    Match betting for today.

2 points Burkina Faso to beat Angola at 13/8.

They haven't lost a competitive game since losing to Ghana at the start of 2010. Good form, most of their players play Ligue 1 while Angola can not seem to perform away from home and most of their players play in their home league and lower tiers of Europe. Burkina are quiet the unknown quantity this year. Could be a surprise package.

Anyway love this competition, free flowing football and terrible refereeing decisions should be great.

zambia did impress me greatly, botswana will keep it rtight today, but we should see botswana eventually allowing, 1 or 2-0 ghana for me.

what price were zambia from the start?

i'd imagine it was 20s or thereabouts?

was nice to see after the team being wiped out 19years ago
but in fairness with the squad civ have they should be winning
    this easily
its amazing that they lost yet never conceded a goal in the entire comp

    Zambia were 40-1 in Ladbrokes.
They beat the top 3 in the betting on their way to the title. Not bad!
I kept the coupon to see where I'd go wrong.
Missed penalty blew up all my bets, and then he does a Gyan on it by scoring in a shootout that he loses. Might send him my docket for a refund ;)
