On Sunday, the US traffic safety agency announced that BMW had recalled 89,000 Mini Coopers for the same reason. "The electric auxiliary water pump that cools the turbocharger has an electronic circuit board that can malfunction and overheat,"

... but the Cooper doesn't have a turbo!

Ya, only applies to R56 Cooper S
Another case of journalists writing about they don't really understand.

Doesn't the Cooper S have one?
That's the one that bursts into flames for no reason AFAIk.

Oh yay, the same model that likes to spit it's spark plugs out of the cylinder head stripping the thread on its way out. Seems to be a nicely built engine that.
The peugeot engine? Dunno much about that engine really.

Or was the "sparkplug loosening" happening on the tritec engine?

EDIT - ya, the spark plug problems were with the first gen Cooper S (R53) , the Tritec engine.
This current recall refers to a turbocharged engine (R56) so it's not the Tritec engine.

Maybe this recall could be extended to the Citroen DS3?

    Ooooh "electromigration" very fancy.
Under high operating temperatures an electro-migration can occur at the circuit board installed in the additional water pump.

More recall, this time VAG also including skoda, audi, volkswagen.. 2litre TDI engine..

    Linky

Strange how it doesn't include A4.. Is the A4 engine different?

MOD, can you please update the title of the thread to include VAG.

Oooh that's a whole other can of worms worthy of it's own thread IMO. Surprised there isn't one!

It's been covered elsewhere already. Had mine in Friday for it;)

All they do is put a dampner on the lines. AFAIK there was an incident* in the States resulting in this.
