I know that on seeing the title thread most people will be set to say how dreadful Freelanders are and they are probably correct.

But my question is on value as I am thinking of buying my stepmothers car from her and interested in opinions on fair price.

03 D, 1.8 petrol S, 109,000 miles, FSH, head gasket done, well looked after

She is offering it to me at "about 2K" - any opinions on this? Have looked at prices on donedeal and there is an enormous spread.

If the HG has been done correctly and the 4wd is still hunky dorey it mightn't be a bad buy at €1500/€1800 ish if you actually want it and don't mind lashing petrol into it, the 1.8Ks are less than efficient in the FreeLander.

Keep in mind it will fetch small money from anyone else too.

I wouldn't go over €1500 on it TBH.

Yeah, I added in the /€1800 as an afterthought really just in case €1500 was off the mark :)

thanks guys, forgot to mention it has 3 months tax, and NCT until March 2013.

with tax and test @ €1500 it is good bangernomics material I guess!

I am keen to buy it because I would only intend to keep it for 6 months, then shift it on; I think the €1.5 - 2k region is quite risky car buying territory, and despite the problems associated with the model at least I know this car has been looked after.

Need a biggish car, estate/jeep, living up a farm track which needs decent clearance rather than serious offroad ability. Any alternative suggestions that make better sense than the freelander?
