Thinking of going to Vietnam & Cambodia later on in the year. Any suggestions on best times to visit & what's best to see. Also I'll only have 3 weeks and think an organised trip would probably suit me. Any ideas on who to travel with etc? Thanks:)

I went on a Vietnam/Cambodia tour with Intrepid over xmas/new year last year. Cant fault them, for Asia travel anyhow. Without a doubt you are paying a premium but I honestly feel as a thirty something female travelling solo with limited time it was the most painfree way to optimise my hols. Made great friends too! PM me if you want to know anything more specific

Sure, it was a 17 day trip - started in Hanoi and finished in Bangkok. Route was Hanoi - Halong Bay - Hanoi and overnight train to Hue - Hoi An - flight to Ho Chi Minh City - Phnom Penh - Siem Reap - Bangkok. Like the OP, I could only get 3 weeks off work max and felt there was no way I could see everything doing it independently. Looking back this is definitely true, although sometimes everything felt a bit of a rush - but that's the trade off I guess!

TBH I was really anxious about it starting out especially being on my own as to what the group would be like and as I hadn't paid a single supplement and knew i'd be sharing with a stranger. Shouldn't have worried at all - I was paired up with an Aussie chick who was cool. Mix was 'interesting' - couples and singles, age range from 25 ish right up to a very fit NZ couple in their 60's. Accommodation was grand - clean and simple hotel/guesthouses no complaints.

Overall it is a great way to do it if you're stuck for time. The trip is all go - lots of early mornings and long travelling days - some people moan about this when doing the group trip thing but I loved it - hours literally watching the world go by and all journeys were well broken up.

    Go for it! ;)

I had a 6 stop bus ticket for Vietnam, it was cheap (less tha €50) and gives alot of freedom, just buy the open ticket and book the bus a day prior at each stop. It went from Hanoi - Hue - Hoi An - Nha Trang - Da Lat - Mui Ne - Saigon, there are different options for the stops.

You can't miss the things Bruz recommended, my favourites were trekking in Sapa, Halong Bay Boat Trip, Saigon War Museum & Chu Chi Tunnels, never made it to the Mekong Delta.

If your interested in riding a motorbike, then there are different tour options between Hue and Hoi An (Over the Hai Van Pass as seen on Top Gear). Some nice spots(Waterfalls etc) around Da Lat to ride too if you hire a bike for a day.

    Other Activites are:
    Cycling around Hue
Getting custom made clothes in Hoi An
Relaxing on the beach in Nha Trang
    Kite Surfing in Mui Ne

In Phom Penh, get out to the killing fields and to s21 Prison.
