    Hi,

I'll soon be ready to tackle the body on my Toyota Landcruiser BJ40 restoration.

I'm wondering what peoples suggestions on the best underbody / seal protection for the whole bottom section and particularly the wheen arches and fender?

Also, what do you call that glue / rubber you see on modern cars and can it be applied (sucessfully) to classics?

    Thanks

    Hi Corglass,
I also have some work like this todo, and will be interested in what others have to say.

I'm planning to follow the recommendations in this link

    http://www.rust.co.uk/right-products.cfm

Never used any of there products before but havn't found a bad word said about them so far. Like to know what others think.

    Cheers...

Shutz, waxoil or similar black sticky stuff is the usual. Disgusting job to do though, you blow it on with a shutz gun but be warned, it goes everywhere! Comes in 1litre containers that screw on the gun, you'll need 4 or so, really cheap though.

Are you talking about seam sealer? Tigerseal or Sikaflex are effective for bonding and sealing, there's also brushable seamsealer for painting over joints after which is what I think you want. Have a nose around a decent big motor factor (forget Halfords), ones that also do commercial/agri tend to stock the biggest selection.

I'd use all the modern materials possible where they don't affect the appearance, especially with something as prone to rust like a BJ40.

Good link selfdiy. What you've linked to is treating the bare steel etc. If you look at the Sika and Dinitrol tabs you'll find the types of stuff I'm talking about for protection once you repaired and sorted the body. It's also worth spraying all the cavities with clear waxoil while you can (use the flexi extension you can get with shutz guns)
