We are in our 40s with one kid.
We get very little back for doctor visits etc.
We are currently young ish and healthy.

If we are unfortunate enough to get ill will we not get treated anyway?
Are the queues that long for everything?
Is med insurance an absolute must given our age etc?

have you looked at the corporate plans as an alternative.
check out hia.ie for a comparison of all plans

Don't temp fate! One+Plan (VHI) is only €109 for a child if renewing before 14 feb 2012. This is a excellent plan and very cheap. Company Plan Extra excess (VHI)for 828 is an excellent plan for adults. Adult and kids can be on different plans. Have a look at the HIA.ie website and do some comparisons!

828 may be excellent, but it's still a big chunk of change coming out of people's accounts every month. I pay a tenner more than that per month, and I'm quite likely to let my policy lapse when it comes up for renewal in a couple months time. I, like an awful lot of people out there right now, simply can't afford it.
