I have an 01 vw passat tdi 130bhp with 117k mies. The turbo is noisy, it barely passed the last NCT on the smoke reading. I have decided to repair it now rather than wait for it to go completely. Am i better to get the turbo reconditioned or buy a reconditioned one? How much does either option cost? Any help appreciated.

It doesn't really matter, some places will be able to give you an exchange turbo which is a good option as it minimises the time the car is off the road.

    Try these guys http://www.turbos.ie/

They are based in tyrone and have next day delivery. The reconditioned turbo i got for my focus was 400 sterling and this included new oil feed/return pipes banjo bolts etc which are the bones of 120 euro from ford. You will need to get your mechanic to investigate why your turbo is going in the first place otherwise the reconditioned one that he will fit might fail prematurely if it isnt investigated.

Thanks lads. Yeah, my mechanic is going to give the engine a good going over to see what caused the problem. i dont mind having to send the turbo away to get it fixed as i have my bomb proof 99 corolla on standby!!
