    Hello,

Thinking of buying a 2009/2010 Volkswagen Passat. I'm looking for the 170 Bhp model

I'm using Irish websites. Maybe I'm searching in the wrong places.........but for the life of me, I can't find a 170 BHP model in. Ireland

In General, Does Ireland only get basis cars ? And not a top end car like the 170 BHP version

Was thinking about a Passat cc also, but they are a bit pricey

Passat wasn't offered in a 170bhp guise in Eire. Just buy a 140bhp model, and get it remapped, pretty much what VW did!

It was. No one bought one though.

The current model is not available with 170 bhp in Ireland. The previous car was available though.

OP, if you want a 170 bhp Passat but would also like a car that is more reliable, more spacious, cheaper, better equipped and does everything else just as well as a Passat, call to your local Skoda dealer and look at the Superb. It may not have the "badge" and it may be uglier, but it is a considerably better car, plus like I say you can buy one here with the 170 bhp engine:).

    Captain speed

    Thanks for the input

I have indeed considered a Skoda Superb, may sound stupid but are they almost too big ?

Have you driven one before or anything ?

They look a lot bigger than say a Passat because of the ugliness. They're bigger alright, but not by much. Haven't driven one but have been in one and I was very impressed by it. I thought the first generation car was very good as well I might add (that was also based on the Passat).

I expect better than this from you! We had at least 2 B6 170 Passats. The 2 I remember both went pop though............

That's really going to dissapoint the driver who's B7 Passat 2.0Tdi Highline 170bhp is on the way up from Cork to me, arriving tomorrow! Although it does mean I've driven a car that doesn't exist when I delivered a 170 Highline last year.

OP - available, but rare. Probably due to the injectors being suspect on the earlier models.

They are rare, cos the average Passat driver was happy with the 105bhp 1.9 TDi!

If you fancy something a bit more "sporty", the Ocatvia vRS... which has this engine too.

I have the 170 Diesel in my Golf GTD. Very happy with it indeed.

I'm on my second superb and really like them.
Regardless of the bulsh1t about Skoda on this forum they are very likeable.
There not for everybody which is another reason I like them
In fact R.O.R supplied the first one.

My apologies, I distinctly remember checking them out when they were new back in 2010 and I could have sworn that they definitely were not available with the 170 engine then:o. Good to see that's been changed though:).

They could have been PD models though;)!

Yes, it can be those too. I'm speaking from experience however. Seems I've just been unlucky and it wasn't really the engine but they are proving to be solid.

I am confused as to know how this happens. I know the oil pump failed in the earlier ones but I have been assured this is no longer an issue with regular servicing..

All good thanks. As long as they don't know what I do to their car, there ok!

No - they were PD's, your car just has the Cork curse upon it

As far as I know the Seat Exeo comes with 170bhp.
    What about one of those?

ive seen these octavia vrs's, obviously I like the 170 BHP

but they look very boy racerish and everyone ive seen on carzone etc. is bright blue :)

do you have the 170 version of the Superb ? and the new model ?

    DSG or manual ?

Do you find that for the size of the car that the engine is pokey enough ?

The Passat is a class above, smoother and quieter.

And there's nothing wrong with race blue vrs's...ahem...

I often wonder as the Octavia is built on the VW Jetta platform why is it that when anyone asks about a Passat they are directed toward a Jetta based model. Surely if I wanted a Passat and chose a Skoda I'd want the Skoda car based on the passat platform and not a well endowed Jetta?

I know, it's a smaller car and feels it, however I think it's how to get a 170 in this case.

Every extra? Not mfsw, nice alloys, sat nav, bluetooth, factory xenons...looks like a normal highline equivalent import. Also a PD with I'm cool tags on the plates.

Nothing has changed, they were always available. Only in Highline for some years, but always available.

Does the Octavia with the 170 BHP engine only come in this VRS model ?

    Yes,
But if you think you like them but not in "Boy Racer Blue" ( sorry EPM :D )
You could get an Anthracite one? Nice and mellow. Could in fact be my next colour on my next one
