Hi. My girlfriends 320 GB Asus laptop has two hard drives (or is partitioned, I don't know how to recognise the difference) the first the C: drive and the second the "Data" or D: drive.

The C: Drive is about 70GB and is nearly full. All the Programs files seem to get installed on here in the Prog files and Prog files (x86). The D: Drive is about 250GB and has alot more space free. The issue we are having is that she wants to install a big programme (a free GIS) but it won't install because of lack of space. She has removed everything she knows of her own from the C: to the D: drive (music, films, pictures etc) but the C: drive is still nearly full.

Can programmes be installed to the D: drive and is this wise? We're kinda wondering why the C: drive is so small in comparison to the D: drive and why the split isn't more equal.

    Anyone any advice?

    Thanks in advance...

Sounds like a partitioned hard drive alright!

If she has so much free space on the D: can the program not be installed on the D drive?

When she is installing the program, if she just points the directory where it goes to to whereever on the D: she wants it it should go in there no problem...

    ;)

Sorry, just to expand a bit, the C: is mainly used for the OS/Programs/User Profiles etc and D: can be used to store anything really, so yes, just install the program to the D:
