Do you really think this it's a good idea to cheapen volunteering to the point that it's a prize in a contest? I always thought EIL was a pretty reputable organization. I'm kind of shocked at this. I hope Ireland doesn't get to the point where people are winning prizes to come help us out.

EIL is a very reputable organisation, I wouldn't have posted about them if they weren't. They are extremely professional and do fantastic work in many areas around the world, with the support of their volunteers and the EIL network.

I think you are missing the point of this competition. The volunteer programmes run 365 days a year, around the globe. They have been running for many years and will continue for many years. This competition simply gives EIL the opportunity to pick the right person for this once in a life time trip.

Whether someone pays the normal volunteer fee or is given the chance to go without paying a fee, I think the most important point is that the right person goes.

By running this unique competition they are opening up the chance to a wider group of people, they are picking the right person and perhaps most importantly they are highlighting Vietnam, volunteering and the issues involved.

    All positives in my opinion.
