Bycle Medics

Hi I am looking into setting up a bycle responder unit, anyone got any advice on the type of bike that would be suitable, and panniers, I know SP Services do a bike bag but its to small for the equipment, panniers big enough to take a small oxygen cylinder and AED. Also any advice on the tyre pressure, as I was using my own bike and kept getting punctures because of the weight of the equipment carried.
    Any advice would be appreciated.

This would fit the bill id say, ive worked on one and they are absolutely massive, they can carry a ton, unless you want something fast :D which this isnt

    How much weight, exactly?

Just curious would you Phecc accredited to set up a Bicycle Medic? Or working through a voluntary?

You would probably be looking at something like the guards use set up with panniers. A basic response bag plus AED plus a CD o2 cylinder would work out at being quite light albeit bulky. A rigid mountain bike would fit the bill.

Might be worth getting in touch with OMAC Drogheda/Dundlak as they have a bike unit and would point you in the right direction.

    As do Waterford.
The bikes used are absolute base models, BSOs to be precise :D

Yorkshire had a cycling paramedic service, but I think it's been axed.

The bikes looked like this (connoisseurs of excessive hi-viz, feast your eyes):

They look like mountain bikes with enormous rear panniers and small front panniers.

Trailers might be useful too, if you don't have to bump up and down stairs, or perform similar trailer-defying activities.

I use the Bike-hod, which carries about 50kg, can carry tall items and stands upright when it's off the bike.

Excessive? Barely adequate more like it - just look at all that black - and those pale helmets. One would have thought that these individuals should be leading by example and showing what it means to be a responsible and conscientious road user. A lost opportunity. Tragic.

Yellow face paint should also have been budgeted for.
