We looked into getting our church part done abroad and was told by the priest that croatia was a big no no as paperwork can be very awkward. Also dubrovnik is massively expensive for everything i.e. can be more than Dublin prices.

We ended up in Poland because its as beautiful and seriously cheap and also paperwork was fine to do.

Is it civil, church or both you want done?

Its a Church wedding, Was that a priest in Ireland told you that?

Where in Poland did you go?

Yes it was the irish priest that told us because all your paperwork will be done in Ireland and in theory the bishop out there just accepts the paperwork from your own bishop and all is rosey. Not the case in Croatia apparently.
We are getting our civil wedding completed here, simple in out and all done, no hassle. Poland preferred that and also our marriage cert will be in English.

My Croatian friend got married to an American man and they didn't have any problems with paperwork. They did have a civil marriage in the US first though, and than got married in the cathedral in Split. Ask around a bit to see what the rules are, but I know that they didn't have any problems.

My cousin got married in Dubrovnik almost three years ago and had absolutely no problems whatsoever with paperwork.

She did have to post a lot of paper work over to the priest that was conducting their marriage ceremony and it cost a bit as it was registered post (never ever use standard post for important documents).

    Dubrovnik is crazy expensive though.

Here are a couple of posts I made about it
