Anyone got advice on the best place to lodge about 15k? I don't really want to agree not to touch it for years, incase I need some of it. Would I be better off opening a credit union account or post office account instead of a bank ac? Any tips appreciated!

This would be better off in the finance forums, you'll get a better answer there. What I will say is that like you, I have a fairly sizable pool of savings. At present, I keep my money in two bank accounts and one post office account. I have considered moving it into a selection of different locations but I'm really not to well informed about what is safe and what is not. Perhaps gold bars under the floorboards ;)

This would be my preferred option too, but I have no floorboards! :)
Thanks for the response, I think I'll do as you suggest and ask the finance section!

Do you mean you lodged some in a northern ireland bank? Is that an option, I never considered that.

Very easily done. Ring up your desired bank up north. They will post you paperwork sign and return. they will inform you when its open and did a transfer from my bank here in the south. To open a deposit account you will need to do it in person but interest is so low I was happy just with a current account.

Not a suitable thread for this forum.
