Region Locked DVDs on Laptop?

Hi all,

I have a problem, I was recently in NY and purchased quite a few DVDs I couldnt find here, however when I play them on my laptop (Windows vista) it has a limited number of times I can change regions.

Unfortunately it now says there is one remaining time to change region, but of course it will not let me!

so my question is are there any ways around this with software? I have found a program called remote selector but not sure if its any use.

if anyone knows of a solution could they let me know?

I have VLC, great little program, however even this isnt solving my problem, the DVD comes out unwatchable, it plays but can barely see the screen clearly!

Either of them will let you put the film on to your computer.

http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cd_dvd/copy_dvd/dvd_shrink.cfm will let you cut off the credits and extras/menus to make the film size smaller so it takes up less HDD space.

http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download will then let you put it back on a blank DVD without the region stuff and whatever you have cut off the film. If using a single layer DVD you'll need to get the size down below 4.4GB (ish)

Probably cheaper and handier to just buy an external HDD though. Prices have come down abit.

Like this one, I have one, good drive. Take awhile to fill it.
