Sky box problems...

    i have a few problems, i need help !!!

    1) I recently setup a spare Sky box in a bedroom. I connected 2 lengths of coax cable from the LNB to the Sky box, and could only recieve a few channels, Ive tried it with the Sky card in and card out, but still cant recieve the full range of Channels on FTV.

    2) Channels Dissappering? Bbc 1 and 2, 3E, and some Kids Channels.. " no signal"
I had a dodgybox recently, and the Signal started diminishing and then channels just went, so i plugged it out and stopped using it.

    3) Signal strength?
Input 1 signal strength is Full
input 1 signal quality is just below half.
input 2 signal strength is Full
input 2 signal quality is just below half also.
    are these correct?

4)Scortch mark on Sky card. Just where the metal strip is, its blackened as if it overheated? Does that affect signal quality or programmes?

5)While checking Signal strength i noticed that there was "no telephone line connected " ?? if there wasnt , surely i wouldnt recieve any Sky programmes at all?

I hope you can help on some of my problems..

Is the Sky card an active card? You state it's a spare box which could mean the card is no longer active-if so take it out and reboot the box.

Check the cable connections, make sure they're tight and that none of the braid is touching the main copper in the centre of the cable. Is the signal ok on the main box, compare the two and see how they match up.

    Is it a Sky+HD box?
If you are using it for fta then 99% of those boxes have a crippled EPG which means it's stuck on the Irish settings and you have to manually tune in a lot of fta stuff ala ITV etc. then view them through 'other channels'.

Not having a phoneline connected has no impact on signal so don't worry about it.Only needed for multiroom viewing.

    thanks for the reply..
yeh they are fairly old cards, Blu with yellow house :)
    how do i reboot?

it is an old Sky box, Not + or HD.
The Signal Strength i mentioned in the original post was on my main Sky+ box downstairs.

You don't need those cards, they are obsolete and when in the box will block a lot of fta channels.

To reboot, simply plug the box out & in again,to update the software hold down the back-up button on the box while plugging it out & in.

The scorched card suggests PSU failure. What's the Digibox make and model number? If it's a Thomson, look no further. Don't attempt a firmware update if the PSU is faulty.

    Liameter ...
the scortched card is in my Sky+ box in the sitting room, and has being giving a bit of trouble of late, losing channels, hard to change channel etc. Would this be down to the card?
Its a Pace box (cant see any model number)

    Thanks again lads....

What's the Pace Digibox model number on its label underneath?

    Pace tds47onb

Should i have to Reboot my other Sky box every time i use it? When i turn it on after being off overnight, there are no channels, i have to hold in BackUp, plug out, then plug back in, and then all the channels are back...
Thats hardly right is it :P

    1. Don't switch it off. Leave it in standby instead.

    2. The TDS470 has a known fault:

(This is why I like to know the model number.)

You have nothing to lose. Even if you cancel, you can call back before the end of the month to say you changed your mind. :)
