I cancelled Sky Movies a few months back and replaced it with a Media Server, but with Netflix, I'm seriously considering cancelling my normal Sky subscription and putting in Freesat HD instead.

Movie selection isn't great as of yet but it's only out a week, already cancelled my sky movies on the first day Netflix launched.

I bought one of these logitech revues http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Revue-Google-TV-Refurbished/dp/B006HFVXSU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1326655966&sr=8-1 , it has the Netflix app to watch the tv shows and movies. HD is no extra charge. That box also allows you to surf the web on the TV, watch you tube, rte player etc. The keyboard also doubles as a remove for the sky, you get all the features of the sky remote with the benefit of picture and picture. It's well wort buying, it's €118 delivered, takes about 5 days for delivery.

say if sky is currently on 12hrs a day at the moment

how much data allowance would netflix eat up on 12hrs a day?

Depending on the quality but i'd budget 1 to 4 GB an hour depending on quality.

I heard that Netflix cant get the big movies because sky have rights to show the movies over here

    Usage:
    Manage video quality
We know that some of you have internet data caps and we want to make it easier for you to manage how much data you use.
We offer 3 video quality settings to help you manage your data usage. No matter what level you choose, your Netflix membership price will remain the same.

Good quality (up to 0.3 GB per hour)

Better quality (up to 0.7 GB per hour)

Best quality (up to 1 GB per hour, or up to 2.3 GB per hour for HD)

Not interested myself (Half price Sky for the year:)) and I get any new stuff I want elsewhere online and in HD;) It's amazing what you find in the Soccer forum.

Good thread here discussing Netflix, many seem underwhelmed with the movie content. http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056430225

The monthly Sky subscription can go towards a line with a bigger cap, couldn't it?

I get eight Sky Movie channels on cable and never watch them. I remember when Sky Movies consisted of three channels and it was a good service. It doesn't feel like that these days as it is all repeats and it is far too expensive. €6.99 a month for a service like Netflix is not a bad deal. granted the movies aren't all brand new but there is a lot of stuff there to watch.

That could change soon. UK regulators aren't happy with this monopoly.

It's also fairly easy to access the US Netflix library which has much more content then our version.

Watched The Fighter and Stripes earlier on tonight on it!

I use this, free for a weeks trial too, fairly easy to setup.

Canceled Sky Movies a few months ago. Have not missed it at all. Will Netflix add much to my UPC bill? My bill is for basic tv, bband and phone. Normally about 60 euro.

There are plenty of good films on Netflix imo, if you search for them. Excellent selection of foreign movies too.

Newer title doesnt nessicarily mean better titles although I fully understand people wanting to access newer titles.

If you can access the US site, there are some fairly decent newish titles including True Grit and The Fighter, available in HD too.

I gave up on Sky Movies months ago. Far too ex0pensive for the service and if you factor in having to pay a HD sub too for HD content, then it makes Netflix even better value imo.

I cancelled Movies last week, but nothing to do with NetFlix, I just didn't feel that Sky Movies was worth the money. Of course, Sky probably think that it was because of NetFlix...

+ 1, cancelled sports as well. Apart from having to talk to 3 different people to cancel they didn't seem too pushed & did not offer any great inducement to stay, maybe they don't think netflix will have any great impact on them.

Had Sky Movies for 10yrs. Quality has only gone downhill. Just not worth the money now. Netflix US seems the good option if you have the allowance.

So can you log into 2 different machines/laptops etc at the same time?

does netflix stream or do you download the file to watch at a later time then it expires? I find even with my high speed connection, my skygo can stutter and not be too smooth, but that may be a silverlight problem?

    Yes.

Parents are considering leaving sky and getting netflix on a roku box. They're not out here til Feb 3rd though

Could not justify paying 35€ a month for the crap that they show, Just flicked through the EPG on my UPC box last night and they were Showing Superman III .

US Netflix is the way to go! :)

Def thinking about it. I have enough in the house to supplement at a far lower cost. For a start Netflix - but this isn't enough on its own. I have a uk freesat box but will buy a 500gb dvr free sat box - this will give me the series link etc. then use my apple tv with my US acc for the movies (far cheeper & more recent films). I reckon that I will be saving at least €50 / month. The only disadvantage is the sports... But there are ways round this also:D

I completely killed my sky sub last year. Since then I've been watching Freesat with a 500GB pvr (saorview for when I might need it) and a US itunes account on the appleTV. I signed up for netflix and have barely used the satbox since.
Now, there are a few shows on there that I never got around to watching before, so I'll see what happens when I finish them.

I'll be checking out unblockus tonight.

I was just curious which shows in detail. What would you recommend?

unblockus is pretty handy because the site lets you switch between US, Irish and several of the the other netflix regions with a single button click. They all have slightly different content.

A bigger catalogue, mostly(but not always) more up to date seasons of TV shows and films.

There are loads of ways of using the US version if you google it.
