Moved from 4x4, tractors, diggers and plant, more likely to get an answer here.

what is it that leads you to think it's the ecu relay or the "tank unit". More info required.

It could be any number of things but going by the age of it I would say the only likely electrical fault that would cause a non-start would be a stop solenoid on the pump.

Have you changed the fuel filter?

Checked all the fuel lines for leaks/cracks back to the tank?

I did see the tank unit blocked with shyte on a Golf, you could get at it under the passenger seat, not sure if there is an inspection plate on the floor in the Caddy.

I would be more likely to say the fuel pump but the info u give isn't great but I'd be going with the fuel pump on it.as its mechanical pump

Try testing relay 109, these are a known problem on the Seat Inca/VW caddy, these cause starting problems. Its a dealer only part but not too expensive.

sorry lads havent been on i a while!

yes fuel filter was change recently!

i think it could possibly be the relay or the tank unit cause theres no diesel getting to the injector pump! the big relay controls the tank unit pump but as i say i got one handy off a friend and it didnt work! so this is why i think its the tank unit!

slidey theres three solenoids on the pump! i tried sending power to all three (not at same time) to see if it would do anything, any tips about these?? ill check the pipes when i get a chance

no such thing as a relay 109 in a 1y engine

Just to confirm, this is a 97?

I don't think there is any pump in the tank unit of a 97 caddy, the lift pump is built into the injector pump. Someone want to correct me on this?

If you just hook up a clean gallon can of diesel to the injector pump and see will it fire.

The stop solenoid is a 24mm jobbie with a single wire to the top of it. If is not taking a current it may well be faulty. You can remove the solenoid and take out the plunger and spring to get around the issue temporarily
