    Hi guys,
I need a good isp for very low ping times. I had Eircom Broadband for years business starter I always had low ping times 15-25 on UK servers. Since recently maybe 1 year now it's gone up to 65 ping. I need to change to something as low or near it. Also does anyone have any idea is the 100 mb UPC Fibre optic provide low ping times or not. Thanks guys :-)

Hi, I just need a good isp with low ping times for international gaming basically. Yes eircom was good but like I said now my ping is really bad. So I need a new isp :-) and I live in Dublin. Do you know if the Fibre optic 100 mb has low ping times? And do you have any proof. Because if I change and the ping time is worse then I'll have to stay with them for 1 year. And I do agree it was good 15-25 ping on uk servers but now it's become bad like 40 ping+ on uk and fr, ger 60+ impossible to play competitive Counter-Strike 1.6. Any help is appreciated.

if upc is not an option it's simpler just to ring up eircom and get them to lower your ping, i did that about 2 years ago and my ping went from 60ms average to uk down to about 18ms and is still this good today. However if UPC is available in your area go to them, much better downloads, cheaper prices and pings just as good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55 ✭✭gab999

I have rang them up many times, they changed the interleaving and there was no change in the ping times. Like I've said before I had eircom for maybe 8 years I had good ping for 7 years and this last year I had the issue with the ping when I change packages. And once I asked them to change back to the orginal one I was using the ping issue wasn't fixed and since they do not gurantee ping times they can't fix it.

I have never had any problems with my pings on UPC.

    I'm on the 50Mb package.

    Speedtest for Amsterdam.

    Not bad for Germany!!

    Hi LaughingJoker91,
Could you do a ping test to France, Germany and the UK. Thanks in advance.

Why don't you supply some IPs to ping, then we can be sure that the tests being done are relevant.

Hello again, I'm replying to daffy duc's post and anyone else who has ntl 50 or 100 MB. Could you please ping these ip's for me 82.149.235.135:27015, 82.149.235.135:27015, 79.133.34.92:27015, 193.33.186.119:27015, 91.121.223.150:27018, 78.129.244.234:27015. If you could ping these, some are German, French and English servers of counter-strike 1.6. Much appreciated.

Thanks for the help guys but the pings still seem abit high on some servers. I'm looking for 30 ping max on German. Can people perhaps who have Eircom Business Starter do some ping tests on these ip's I have given. Thanks in advance.

it wont be easy finding pings less than 30ms to German servers from any Irish isp. The pings below are from my Eircom Business Starter 8meg package, im 2.5km from exchange so only getting about 7meg.

    Hi daffy_duc,
I really like the pings of Irish breeze, could you give me some prices. Because I checked online and the 6 mb package was 170 and 270 euro a month, I'm looking for something like 55 euro a month.
And you guys can post any Internet (ISP) provider you have I'm looking for good ping times :-)

    Hi Gonzo,
Thanks for the reply. I tried pinging the servers which you have pinged. I get About 15-20 ping more than you altho I am on the same package in Dublin. Any suggestions?

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 17,068 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gonzo

I think if you can get UPC where you live then there is no contest. Pings from UPC are very good and the download speeds far greater than any other isp and they are not expensive. While I have good pings im stuck with Eircom because UPC will never be available in my area. At least with UPC you are more or less guaranteed to receive the speed you pay for.

    The Home 4Mb package €55 a month.
    http://www.irishbroadband.ie/products_display.php?id=2

As soon as you start looking at the business products, the cost goes up quite steeply.

Its not exactly cheap, when you consider that for the same price you can get 100Mb from UPC. But you're not interested in throughput, you're interested in latency.

But this is 4 mb upload and download correct? Which would be the same as a 40 mb package on UPC.

Yes, its symmetrical. So 4mbit/s in both directions.

    Hello guys,
Thanks for all your help I think I have decided to get the Irish Broadband Breeze 4 mb package it is the same price as I pay now and 4-5 times faster than Eircom and the ping times seem to be really good. I called technical support and asked them to ping some servers they gave me 5-10 ping on Ireland, 25 France, 30-35 Germany. I think I will change to it :-)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55 ✭✭gab999

Another question for you Daffy duc :-), you are on the 6 mb package which probably costs around 170 euro per month. I really liked your ping times. Hopefully I will get the same with the 4 mb package what do you think?

You do realise that CSS has lag compensation built in, right? i.e., if you shoot the player as he is shown on your screen, it counts as a hit? Anything below 150ms is more than alright, we're talking about a game that's nearly a decade old at this point.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55 ✭✭gab999

One I don't play CSS. Two I play CS 1.6. And three you have no clue what you're talking about. Go read about ping kthx.

And three you have no clue what you're talking about. Go read about ping kthx.

What a nice way to behave.

You come along and ask everyone to check out ping times for various sites. You then start insulting users who try and be helpful.

    Way to go, bud.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55 ✭✭gab999

I wasn't insulting anyone, I was very thankful for everyones help. But PseudoFamous had no idea what he was talking about. I play Counter-Strike 1.6 competitively, there is no conpensation built in the game. He has no idea what he is talking about. No insults were meant for the other users. Help was very appreciated as I have stated several times.
