Anyone ever use travelrepublic.ie or sunsearchholidays.ie? Booking a holiday for about 7-10 days with a few friends and was wondering did people book with these companies or should i stay away?

    Thanks :)

Have used Travel Republic on numerous occasions (Nov. '11 been the last)and never had a bit of trouble with them...
I personally would recommend them before any other....

Avoid these if you can. You may have no issues until you try to cancel - then you will have all sorts of problems.

You would be better going through a travel agent or an actual package holiday company.

Sample quote from a money matters site:

Sites like Travel Republic, Bookable Holidays, lowcostholidays etc most of the time do not sell you a package holiday. They sell you a flight, a hotel, and some transfers, all booked through different suppliers. This is no different to if you made the arrangement yourself directly with the different suppliers.

People still assume they are booking package holidays - a very different beast, where everything is through one supplier and its all protected. If you want a package, go to Thomson, or Thomas Cook. You'll probably pay more - but then, you pays your money you takes your choice.

Agreed, I just had a terrible experience trying to book a holiday with www.lowcostholidays.ie. Rang them on Sunday and booked up then all hell broke loose.... Never got my confirmation of booking so rang them up on Monday and then got a booking confirmation that stated that the full amount was due on the 13th Feb!! Rang back, they changed something, gave me another confirmation, still wrong and so it went back and forth like this until today when it finally got sorted. I kept getting promised that someone would ring me back to sort things out but they never did and I was 'privileged' receiver of 1 liner emails stating miss information that only annoyed me even more

All in all I had to pay over €700 up front for a holiday that is around €1200 with the balance due in June. Never EVER again. I'll stick with a travel agent or book direct myself, it's just not worth the hassle for the little bit of money that you save in the end.

Ye it's much better going through the direct channels - I will be doing this in future.

Just make sure that you don't cancel as you can imagine all the hassle that you would get then.
