I have an LG 42LW450U PC world say it has an Irish digital tuner but I cant pick up any of the stations, I'm getting RTE 1 and 2, TV3 and TG 4 through the old signal, anytime I scan it comes back with 0 Digital channels found, any ideas?

The LW and LK 450U are compatible.

So are you connected to a real aerial or UPC cable?

Have you looped the RF through a VHS, DVD or Skybox etc that has an RF out? It might be set to the DTT frequency or +1 and block it. Modulators block 2 to 4 channels. ALL the current Saorview channels are in the space of one RF channel number.

Delete the channels and scan Digital only. Make sure to select Ireland if there is a Country setup.

The LK is a lot cheaper as it's not 3D (There is no 3D anyway, just Victorian Stereoscopic 1/2 HD resolution transmissions on some satellite channels).

I believe some LG TV's are not totally suitable for saor view I was in Lallys in Dundalk (v good elec store) and the sales man told me that they have stopped stocking LG tvs because of this

I also have the same problem but with my LG HDD recorder it only picks up the sound for the Irish channels it is not ideal at all

I dont understand half of that but its just a normal aerial into the back of the tv, would we need one on the roof? It's definately set to Ireland. I think I already did scan for digital only, I'll try again later when I can get at the tv. I have sky anyway so its no big problem.

I've got the 42LW4500 (Very Similar AFAIK). DTT works perfect & with MHEG5. From what I gather Watty is advising to run the aerial directly to the TV as looping it through VCR's etc before hand may filter out some of the content. I did try putting a 2 Ft extension piece between the Down lead and the TV and the signal disappeared altogether, so now the downlead is connected directly to the TV. May be due to crap shielding on extension piece, to be honest I'm not quite sure. Quality of cable may also be a contributing factor.
    Hope this helps.

    .

You mean you have a set-top aerial at present?

An aerial in the attic or on roof is likely needed.

    Where are you located?

Anyone posting about terrestrial reception problems should always give their general location

All Saorview approved LGs will have no problem handling the Saorview channels if they receive a good signal from the aerial, the list of approved models is here - http://www.saorview.ie/product/lg/.

My brother has a non approved LG 42LD450 (purchased last July) that works perfectly with Saorview incl. MHEG-5 digital text.

Non approved STBs and DTT HDD PVRs can have problems with Saorview and it would be best to stick with Saorview approved products when purchasing, unfortunately there are no Saorview approved PVRs on the market yet. Some posters here are using non approved Sony and Humax PVRs and each have their own niggles.

Looping an already weak signal thru a VCR/sat receiver can reduce it further (up to 5dB according to the DTG) resulting in no or bad signal at the TV, enough to knock it over the "digital cliff" where a similar analogue signal may still give an acceptable picture at the TV. Also looping the Saorview signal thru a unit with a modulator could result in the Saorview frequency sharing the same frequency as the VCR/SAT RF output.

Crap cable, splitters, connectors etc can also reduce signal strength/quality.

I was thinking of buying this same TV.
    Is it a bad buy.
I would be looping it through a triax.

That Tv is approved look here.

Its either a signal problem or not been tuned in right.
