Maternity question

    Hello everyone,

I'm pregnant and for many, many, many reasons I am considering quitting my job of two years (it's a long story, which I would type out but really it just boils down to one question)

My question is, if I stick it out until closer to my due date and then I resign can I still get the statuatory maternity payment?

Or do I still have to be employed to receive?

(I'm not looking for anything from my employer or any other state benefits before anyone asks)

    Thanks.

If your contract of employment ends within 16 weeks of your expected date of confinement and you satisfy the social insurance (PRSI) conditions, Maternity Benefit is payable from the day after the date on your P45. But it is paid for only 26 weeks in total.

You should not resign. You should take your Maternity Leave (which you are entitled to take from 16 weeks prior to the due date). Once you are on Maternity Leave, you can then submit your resignation, but I would wait until your Maternity Benefit has been confirmed before doing so in case there were any unforseen problems.

If there is any gap, even for one day, between your employment and the period that you are claiming Maternity Benefit for, then you will lose entitlement.
