HIDs for golf mk 5

Thinking of getting some HIDs for my golf but wondering has anyone else done it and have any advice about potential issues, warning lights and problems with the automatic light function? also good suggestions of where to buy?

you`ll have to get canbus hids,i got ones off ebay and theyre grand

do NOT get canbus ones.
Get non canbus and get your car coded to suit.

I have non Canbus in my Octavia with 12 months and never had an issue. Canbus ones can cause problems ( Wipers I think )

Whats the difference between canbus and non canbus? also i have heard things about having to get an adaptor to stop the warning light on the dash coming on?

This maybe a stupid question but why do you want to get these when it can cause problems/issues with the car ?

Hi,
The modern VW goup cars have and is too complicated for me to try explain it. But it is a sort of Communications network,

With the Canbus HID's they charge up when turned on, This is fine but apparently it is when you turn your lights off the unit discharges back through the electrical system on the car and CAN cause damage,
The non canbus ones do not do this.
You do not need any adaptor. Get someone with Vagcom or VCDS to recode your car to suit. ( this take literally 5 minutes to do )
You will have no lights until you do the recode.

Non canbus will not cause any damage, The reason to change is for light improvement

Just make sure they're not the ones which blind oncoming traffic... its one of the most annoying thing on roads...

That golf should have Projector lights so should be fine

My headlights seem to be reflector headlights. Its not enough im guessing to just have them properly aligned? I dont want it to be causing hassle blinding people, hassle with the NCT and guards either..

there is a bulb made for reflector lights. i dont know how much better they are over the standard hid bulbs

Definitely reflectors with VW logo on them.

Would they be much of a difference? I was in Halfords one day talking to someone about regular bulb equivalents for HID and he said nothing compares to the conversion kits. Also I take it the fitting I would need is H7?

no normal bulbs will match the light output of hids

Thanks, is there anything else needed or would the kit supply everything?
