    Guys
Looking for some advice here. I was going to buy a hd media player for the likes of netflix but thought I might be just better off getting a blu ray player that will allow me to access netflix etc. Can anyone recommend a decent one that won't cost the earth? How much are they going?

    Thanks

    Tunner

Is there such a thing? There are plenty that play local files and stream, not heard of any that have a drive

I have a Sony BDP-S380 which has internet TV on it but Netflix has not been added as yet. It has TV3, Youtube and Sky news amongst others so I presume its only a matter of time before Netlfix is added here as its available in the US on the same model. And of course has a couple of USB ports too for adding hard drives or flash drives.

The LG blu-ray players have functions like this. Not sure if the Netflix will work here yet though. YouTube etc does wirelessly out of the box

    Have you considered a PS3?

It's what I use of Blu Rays, Netflix, RTE player and Streaming of movies, music and photos. It has an upgradeable hard drive and USB ports to connect external drives. Plus it's connected to the web for regular firmware updates that add new codecs and functionality.

If price is an issue you should be able to pick up a second hand one for about €150

Anyone any more ideas? Would be afraid of dishing out 150 on a second hand ps3 and it not be working correctly as my research has shown

I have used LG blu-ray (BD-670) for Netflix and playing music from NAS. Works fine, video quality depends on internet connection, and seems to adjust automatically.

If you decide to go for a PS3 I wouldn't buy a second hand one personally.

A lot of the ones being sold are ones that have started giving problems. People do these temporary ylod 'fixes' with heat guns and then dump the console while it still looks like its working. The lasers seem to go within a couple of year heavy use too.

If you're getting one for under €100 fair enough, but I wouldn't pay more because you can get a new one for €200 with warranty.

For the price of those Sony's you'd build a pc

I've seen Blu Ray players on the shelf with Netflix functions for under 100 dollars. Price have come way down.

That's interesting because I can't get Netflix on my LG BD-360 until a software update thats apparently not due until later this year. I thought it was only available on the US ones. Did it just show up straight away on your model?

I wasnt really expecting it. I updated last week (version BD.8.62.382) and I noticed it in the premium apps this week. From memory there seems to be some other extra apps there also.

I've a BDP-S480 which I believe has similar functionality. Netflix (at least up to 2 days ago) does not yet appear for Ireland. If you're using a VPN to get US access, I believe Netflix will appear. Big thread on all this in Bargain Alert forum
