HOT or NOT?

when cleaning my gun and spraying some silicone into the cylinder the fps jumps to about 340ish,.2s but after maybe a couple of hundred shots it settles down again to between 320/325.

so do i have a hot gun or not?

i think not because it settles down but at the same time there is scope there for it to go over 1j without any mechanical changes, just a lil spray of silicone does it

In my experience, there has never been a chronograph which given out the same reading 3 times in a row.

Put silicone in, fire 10 shots through the chrono and get the average. If it comes out over 328 FPS, then unfortunately yes, it would be considered hot imo

    EDIT: Never mind :o

ill agree with you on that one no problem.... ok so i give 10 shots and the average is over the limit.... i give 100 shots and every shot there after is below the limit( when most of the silicone has dried up ).. i think im safe??

spose ill get the smart ass posting soon saying 'easy, dont spray the silicone' lol :D:pac:

The Silicone is just providing a better air-seal, and thus bumping your readings - as you say, it drops right down. So just be sure that after maintaining your airsoft gun that you fire (or just cycle the gearbox) 100+ times, and then your piston head o-ring is lubed, and your gun is legal

After you spray it , it will shoot silicone out with the air obviously and the silicone is going on the bb's in the hop up so their coming out more powerful because theres silicone on them and their sliding out the barrel without any dry resistance , it's not hot.

ye i know the whole score of why it happens but wasnt sure if i could be pulled up for a hot gun.
    thanks guys

    That makes zero sense.

It may not be worded very well, but it does make sense.

It may sound plausible but that doesn't mean it makes any sense

Being plausible and being true are vastly different. That concept is the basis of the show Mythbusters.

The only way that silicon increases FPS is by improving the air-seal in the cylinder & nozzle head + possibly lubricate the rubber making the BB easier to pass. However spraying it down the barrel doesn't help it unless you clean it out after. And only use 100% silicone on the barrel and if you have to lube the rubber same goes there.

Not going to tell you not to do it and not going to ask you why you are doing it bearing in mind the FPs are fine as is,If you overdo it MY OPINION is that it that yes is possible that you will be pushing small amounts through the air nozzle into the hop unit which will eventually build up causing inconsistencies of one type or another in that area. Also bear in mind cylinder grease has although similar in nature has a completelely different viscosity for a reason -its for cylinders:rolleyes: If you continue to regularily spray oil into the nozzle you are going to dilute/wash the cylinder grease out-you can work out the ramifications yoursel but to me its a no brainer:) I'm sorry but to be honest I also think the whole thread/discussion is pointless and a total waste of time:D

useing a small spray of silicone oil is a perfectly acceptable "quick fix" for a drop in fps due to the cylinder drying out as long as you have the intention of opening the gb and giving a propper cleaning and greasing when you have the time, where as im short of it at the moment.
my fps WAS dropping due to the cylinder grease i used, although of good brand, was of crap quaility which i only found out through use.
yes useing it all the time is a no-brainer for the reasons minder outlined but i was cleaning my gun,not servicing my gearbox;)

Spot on mate-there are some crappy ones about alright-i like the madbull or celcius cylinder grease for good lubriaction and compression-others will have their own preference but each to their own as they say:)
