Tax relief on tuition fees

Scenario: A parent pays university tuition fees on behalf of an adult child. The child then reimburses the parent - from a personal loan.

Can the parent still claim tax relief on the fees if the child is not a taxpayer & therefore would not be entitled to make a claim in their own right.

Yes the parent can claim. All that required is proof of payment by the parent (receipt) and for the course to be approved for relief.

    Hi

In relation to the above, are you sure that this can be done? Is there not a risk that Revenue would ask for bank statements which would show the payment of the fees on one hand and then the subsequent reimbursement?

Is there not a risk that Revenue would deny the relief in such circumstances?
