I've been trying to set up windows media center on my windows 7 laptop. I get the code up on the 360 (xxxx-xxxx). When I go on the laptop and click "add extender" and type in the code. it "checks" the box called "configuring computer settings" but then it goes to en error page where it says either "cannot find extender" or "unable to connect with extender" (or something along those lines). I've disabled firewall, uninstalled norton internet secuirty (free trial) and it still does the same. they give me no other suggestions and i have searched forums, support site etc. with no joy
    thanks for any help!

have you tried connecting the laptop to the xbox with an ethernet cable directly?
have you turned off the windows firewall?
have you turned off your router's firewall?

Tried connecting the xbox to the laptop directly via ethernet cable. On WMC i got the same error as before, and when i "test pc connection" on xbox it fails to connect to network (previously it would have connected to network but then failed to connect to pc)

How about using an application such as "TVersity" or "PS3 Media Server" instead?

For clarity I am going to post images of each step I take. Maybe someone can spot where I went wrong.

First of all on the xbox i go to media> windows media centre
    xbox1k.jpg

    then i click continue

Then i write down the code as it tells me and click continue

Then I go to Windows Media Centre on my laptop, i will post pics in next post...

ok well you wont need windows media centre for that

when u click the xbox X button click right it says

    video player
    music player
    pictures
    windows media centre
    select music

you want to select music player or select music
    then go to your pc
    ex hippystabber-pc

(windows mediea centre would be rubbish for that honestly)

now on your pc go to windows media player like this video
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8V6TPZcMWxI
because we have w7 click stream
go down to automatically allow devices play my mediea
it should pop up and click again go to xbox and select music and bobs your uncle

now if you would also like to share other things like movies and pictures you need to put them into a public folder

    ex. . go to folder
click open viedo there should be

    my videos
    public vidos

simply open my videos and drag the one you want into public videos this will allow your to watch films you have downloaded on your laptop and watch them on your xbox
