Macbook struggling with Netflix

    Hi,

I have a mid-2007 model Macbook. It is the 2.16 Hz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4GB of RAM. It is in very good condition but I've noticed a problem with Netflix. When I'm streaming a movie it is very choppy when played in Safari.

I can stream a movie on a lot of other devices in the house and there is no issues. Anyone else having an issue with Safari or is my Macbook just getting old?

My Macbook is of similar vintage, though not as much RAM as your one. I haven't signed up to Netflix, so I can't comment on it. Maybe clear the browser cache, etc?

I haven't tried it on Safari, but it works fine for me in Firefox.

Try Chrome, install AdBlock and ScriptNo, and stop a lot of the junk loading in the background. I found it to work perfectly after I did this.

The main issue with a load of websites is the fact that so much junk downloads that is unneeded. The NetFlix website is simple, but it has a load of scripts, tracking and whatnot that just aren't required.

Try this and get back to me.

Who is your ISP and what is your speed?

    I'm with UPC on 25MB.

I don't think it is that because I am streaming in the highest quality on several other devices in the house. Just the Mac is stuttering.

could be a dodgy install of silverlight, try reinstalling it. it's not the worlds best piece of software (only slightly better than flash) :pac:

I tried both of these suggestions. No improvement. It still looks like there are a few frames being dropped.

It is no big deal really. It gives me another little reason to get a new Macbook :)

The problem is with Silverlight. It's unlikely to perform much better on a newer Macbook.

I have a macbook with a similar problem.I find pressing F3 (mission control) twice cures the problem for me or throw your cursor up to a hot corner if you have one set up.In my case the problem only happens when i put it into full screen.
