It has been posted here that HDMI and SCART will not both work at the same time on UPC boxes .
I assume this is your problem.
You will have to disconnect the HDMI from the UPC box to your TV to use SCART from your UPC box to your DVD recorder !!!!

No the USB slot isn't for end user use.

OP I record off a (non-PVR, non-HD) UPC box to a DVD Recorder all the time. However, the particular UPC box that I have has two SCART sockets , one goes to my TV and the other to the SCART on my DVD recorder.

It should record no problem OP. If you have scart running from your UPC box to your tv, take it out from the tv end and plug it into your DVD recorder. (make sure yoyu plug it into the Unput scrat if your recorder has 2 scarts sockets) then run whatever other cable you can to your TV.

Once its all set up, turn it all on, and find the dvd player through your tv. Once found, change the source on your dvd player until you find the signal coming from your UPC box. Once found your good to go

It will work from a upc PVR also. You must keep the upc co-ax feed connected to the box while copying. This is necessary because the upc recordings are encrypted and need the de-crypting information from upc to play them back in the clear.

Could we get this info added to a sticky as it seems to get asked about once a month and its always the same questions?

Q1: Can I copy recordings off my UPC DVR?
A1: Only by replaying via the scart cable to a DVR/PC/VCR and only when the HDMI cable is disconnected.

Q2: Can I use the USB connection on the back?
A2: No, its for UPC use only.

Q3: Can I copy recordings directly off the internal hard drive?
    A3: No, they are encrypted.

Ok so two scarts, one going from UPC box to DVD recorder and one from DVD Recorder to TV. Disconnect HDMI Cable.
I assume HDMI from DVD Recorder to TV is ok?

    Seems fairly straight forward.

Ok still having issues. Ive plugged the scarts in. Nothing, one thing Ive noticed is when I plug the red and white scart cable parts into the audio section at the back of the UPC Digital box I do get sound. I dont even need to tune anything. Any ideas why?
