What engine and transmission do you have?

It could be anything with that warning, dpf if it's a diesel, gearbox malfunction if it's an auto. Sometimes that warning just comes on for no apparent reason.

Sounds like the car has gone into limp home mode. This normally happens when the car's ECU detects a fault and to protect the engine from permanent damage it limits it from reving past 1500 rpm.

There are many faults that could cause this situation so you need the car connected to diagnostic equipement so that the fault code on the car's ECU can be read which will indicate where the problem might lie.

It's not a limp mode though, more a warning.

Sorry misread it. Still needs the fault code read though, even if just to clear it.

Dpf is diesel particulate filter. It's supposed clean out soot and particles from the fuel, I think. I think it's something tha can give trouble on pretty much every type of car that has one.

Anyone got any experience of dealing with a clogged up one on a 9-3? Can it be cleaned out or does it have to be replaced? What's the cost involved?

The EGR gives trouble on that engine. Possibly that?

It cleans the exhaust gases and diesel particulate matter so that they're not as harmful to the environment.

hi there, i also have a 2007 9-3tid showing same "limited performance" warning but driving fine. was wondering how this might be sorted - cash friendly. could it be the SID system malfunctioning?

Your not gonna like this!since I posted last,my car started losing power til it eventually wouldn't start, needed a replacement dpf at a cost of over2grand cos it comes with the cat converter all in one unit.what I did was have the dpf removed and the unit welded back together containing only the cat.be aware that the cars software MUST be remapped or it won't run properly(happened to me).it was a risk cos it affects the cars emissions but thankfully when I had it checked afterwards, the difference is only slight and won't affect passing the nct.car is running perfect now and it only cost €790(so cheap because I asked the mechanic to keep it off the books and I paid cash)

goddammit!!! why did i ever buy that car!!!!

i don't do much mileage and it's 70% motorway so would be suprised if the dpf wasn't able to clean out. but if that's what happened to you i'm not feeling too good about it either. did you try any breakers before going in with the grinder?

No,there's no way of knowing the condition of the dpf without taking the unit apart.
I'm the same,20 mins to get to work and 20 mins back.most of which is on the m50.was told that whoever had the car before me was servicing it with the wrong oil, causing the dpf blockage

OMG - please tell me that you're not falling for that nonsense........

You can get a dealer or someone with the full version of fiatecuscan to do a forced regen on it that should clear it out if it has clogged past a certain level.(at least you can with the alfa jtdm and its pretty much the same engine)
If you go to alfaowners there are a million threads about it!

Having problems with the dpf in mine now.

Anyone know of a garage near to Galway that can try a regen before I go for a more expensive solution?
