I think the ad is presented well, you have 2 more photos you could include perhaps take a photo of the engine and one of one of the alloys. If it was me I would change the title of the ad to Volkswagen Polo instead of VW Polo, should get more hits.

You mention it will fly through the NCT, I'd remove this as if it will fly through why don't you stick it through yourself? As the NCT expires in less than 3 months you could apply for it now and have it early, this will be a big extra in selling it, it will be over 2 years test free for new owner.

You don't mention a spare key or service history, this is good to mention if you have them, also if you have the original manual, spare key service record, previous NCT reports or service receipts it's a good idea to take a photo of these, gives the impression it has been well cared for.

Pricewise I think it's fairly priced, you may offload it around €3k to €3,250.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've changed the title to say "Volkswagen" instead of VW, and mentioned the spare key and original manual. I'll get two more photos there aswell later today.

If I don't get much interest in the next week I'll be putting it through the NCT asap, haven't had a chance to do it yet because of work.

    Bump

You can't post ads for cars on this forum... But you can ask advice on the content of your ad, hence getting it to a wider audience...

Maybe you should change the title of this post to:
My Volkswagen Ad - Review please?

    Excuse me for being cynical...

I was going off a thread from a few months back: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056318268
Only looking for advice on the ad itself.

Asking price seems a bit high for an 8 year old Polo with the NCT about to expire.

    A few cheaper examples:

Here is a 05 for not much more than your asking price:

This is what a buyer will be looking for.

Any add with the mention of it will fly through the NCT I tend to ignore. Nothing personal OP but if the seller is too lazy to do it themselves I look elsewhere

you say it was serviced before xmas, but offer no other service history. If you have any other records of service you should say so in the add. The car is over priced if you have only had it serviced once in four and a half years and do get the NCT done.

It's a few quid either way, I'm open to offers anyway. I'll gauge the interest as it stands and go from there.

I know the NCT is a sticking point for some, and as I've said above if there's little interest straight away I'll get it done asap, I just haven't had the time to get it done yet.

It was serviced regularly over it's full life.

It's not so much a 'sticking point' as a complete deterrent to even look at the car. The term 'will fly through (the NCT)' is used by indie dealers, it is a major turn-off.

Either put it through the NCT yourself or change the expression to something slightly different e.g. 'shouldn't have any problem passing the NCT' - anything but the term you're using now.

I assume when you say this that you have proof in the form of garage stamps in the service booklet (good) or invoices (even better). If so then say 'Full Service History' or simply 'FSH' in the ad and if it was done by VW garages then say 'Full VW Service History'.

On service history, if you got it serviced by the main dealer, they should have stamped the service book that should reside in the glove box. If you have that you have a service history, it's a good selling point.
Everything else is not FSH, but it doesn't mean the car was neglected and no one here is trying to say that.
On a car that age, I would not expect a full, main dealer service history, a few checks around the engine and a test drive should tell me everything i need to know.

On the NCT, YES! DO IT!
You will get more interest and more money, because if you go through the hassle and the expense of doing the test yourself, the buyer doesn't have to and will appreciate it.
Should you sell your car by the time you read this, please disregard.:D

Otherwise, I like your ad, good pictures, reg visible so a prospective buyer can do a car check, mentions mileage and tax and hasn't got any twaddle such as "only serious buyers, no dreamers", etc... that only put off serious buyers. Nearly tempted myself, except I don't need a car and have no money.;)

It's not FSH, I got a local mechanic to do all the services on it instead of going back to the main dealer. If I haven't sold it by Monday I'll book the NCT.

No worries, FSH would be very important on any new car (less than five years) and mostly on anything a bit more expensive, i.e. Bemmer, Audi, merc, etc... upward.
No FSH on a Polo that age should not be a deal breaker.
    Good luck on selling it!

Unless he is a complete idiot, any prospective buyer is gong to make an issue of the (soon to expire) NCT and will use it to bargain down the price. You seem to be of the opinion that the NCT will simply reduce the number of prospective buyers, it will but any that do turn up will use it a major plank in bargaining when it comes to the price.

If you're certain it will pass, pay the €50 (€55 from Feb. 1st), it will be money well spent. Otherwise the buyer (if you can find one) will push you down by at least €250 in expectation that there is a fault that you're aware of but not revealing and which is holding you back from submitting it for the test.
