Mature student in Mechanical Engineering

Is there any mature students on here, in the IT, preferably doing Mechanical Engineering? I'm a 31 year old qualified motor mechanic but the lack of job prospects has me in the mindset of going back to education.
I would like some insight into the course, to see if it would be for me. The maths and science parts of it concern me but depending on where I search online, it can say I do/don't need strong back backgrounds in both:confused:
