    Hi,

I am considering buying a car. I drive an Opel at the moment ans might buy Opel again but was wondering is there any differencebetween Opel and Vauxhall.

I understad that the same company make bith cars and they are basically the same car but do people find that one is better made than the other.

from what I hear, Vauxhall will not resell as well as Opel but I plan to keep the car for a long time so thats not a issue.

    Thanks

What about servicing and parts, where is the nearest Vauxhall dealer? are spares dearer for either make?

20 years ago the only difference was the badge, I'm not so sure any more.

Same car different badge. Opel had a good name in ROI hence us still getting them. Vauxhall are seen as a home made British car even though they're not so they keep it going in The UK and NI. No difference.... Except Vauxhalls are probably better equipped. Which badge do you prefer?

It is certainly only the badge that is different.

If you take the Griffin badge off a Vauxhall you will see the Opel badge shape in the black plastic.

Only other difference is trim levels. they all come from the same production line

Vauxhalls tend to have more extras like nicer alloys, etc IMO

Vauxhall and OPels come off the same production line - different models are made in different factories. For example, Ellesmere Port makes the Astra, a German factory (Russellheim) makes the Insignia. There may be different designations for the trim levels and indeed may be difference between trim levels for localisation purposes.

Parts for a Vauxhall would be easy to find in Ireland - or so I found with my Vaux Signum when I had it repaired in Ireland (wanted it fixed before I brought it back home to London).

I imagine you would get Vauxhall/Opel parts in an any Opel dealer in Ireland?

I was talking to Opel about this very matter the other day and it seems that you can get parts and service issues fixed here in your local Opel dealer.
That said warranty issues are handled a little differently, if you buy over the border you might have to fill out some forms to get something fixed here under warranty, just keep that in mind when your thinking about buying.
Might be worth dropping an email to Vauxhall UK and get it cleared up one way or the other.

There would be no issues with warrenties from Opel/Vauxhall.

the cars I would be looking at would be 5/6 yrs old so would be outside manufacturers warrenty.

would only be whatever warrenty a garage would give

    but thanks for the replys

Vauxhall looks cleaner, better specced and has less mileage. Its also a private sale so probably more open to bargaining on the price too.;)

As an aside - what dealer (the Opel above looks to be on a forecourt) sells a "cracking model" with a nice big dirty dent on the front wheel arch?

If it's down to a choice between those two cars (astra estates) then it's the vauxhall all day long for me......

My cuz had a 04 astra (vauxhall) and all his servicing and parts etc came from a main Opel dealer...

Is it just me or I near €6k for a 6 year old 100,000mile Astra a but rich?
The cars are virtually identical but UK ones may have had better equipment levels. A Vauxhall is cheaper to buy but of course you will get less for it in the end!
