Hey new to this, I have a apple/elderflower wine, apple wine and cranberry/raspberry wine going at it at the moment. I was wondering if you can make a wine or cider from oranges. Thought it would be interesting. Any ideas . Was looking for cheap honey as well to make mead any ideas in the wicklow/dublin area. :D

Seems you're not the only one to ask that question!

Thanks, found this as well but (below) was just wondering if anyone has tried it, some small info on how to do it but no one who has said how it turned out or was it worth it. Trying to do treacle wine at the moment as well. Hasn't started fermentation yet but thinking that it might take longer to start

    Orange Wine

    10 lbs very ripe oranges
    6 lbs granulated sugar
    2 gallons water
    ½ teaspoon grape tannin
    2 teaspoons yeast nutrient
    1 ounce wine yeast

Boil the two gallons of water in a large stockpot. Peel the oranges, carefully removing all of the pith. Separate the oranges into sections and remove the seeds. Place orange sections into a blender and liquefy( just buy the juice lol) . Place liquefied oranges, sugar, tannin, and yeast nutrient into primary fermentation container. Add boiling water and stir until sugar is dissolved. Cover and cool until mixture is room temperature. Add yeast, cover, and ferment for one week. Strain liquid through a finely meshed bag, and transfer to a glass secondary fermentation container. Seal with airtight lid, and rack once a month for four months. Stabilize, wait one week and rack into bottles. Age at least one year before drinking.

Can't help with that but I've been keeping an eye out myself for cheap honey for mead! Cheapest I've seen was €1 a lb, think Centra or someone had it a few weeks ago.

I work in a place that gives out mead every night as an aperatif.

You'd want to either be giving away a lot as gifts, or have a chronic sweet tooth, as it's fairly cloying, and you wouldn't want to spend a night on it.

If it's Bunratty, it's not really a true mead. Real mead isn't usually that sweet.
