Help wanted - timber framed house insulation query

    Hi,

I've had problems with retaining heat in my timber frame home built in 2001. To be honest, have only noticed more in recent years following birth of kids!

Anyway, main problem is at the main bedroom to front of the house. Had a builder over today and he took down the fascia on the roof of bay window (window is on ground floor but roof fronts on to main bedroom). Upstairs floor boards were visible from outside, gap between upstairs floorboards and downstairs ceiling is clearly visible when under side of bay roof is taken off - is this right?

Builder has suggested putting up Kingspan insulation and fronting off with plywood, my concern is that this will block off deliberate ventilation?? To the untrained eye, it simply doesn't look right as it is, builders that constructed were known to take short cuts.

Any help would really be appreciated.

    Thanks

difficult to know what exactly is the situation without some pictures. I would suggest that air-tightness is a problem as well as insulation, so unless the ply can be completely sealed preventing air-loss (and not hindering ventilation of your roof felt, Id discuss an air-tightness membrane and perhaps natural insulation that will allow an amount of breathability to the structure
