Terrible news. One of the all time greats. Hopefully he recovers, hard to believe he's 81 though.

I always felt he made a big mistake retiring on such an appalling film. It's a shame he has no interest in doing one last film as he has been in a shed load of classics and Welcome To Moonseport certainly ain't one of them.

    Update:

2:40 PM PST -- Hackman's rep tells TMZ the actor has been released from the hospital and insists he is "fine."

The rep says Gene "suffered bumps and bruises after a woman bumped him from behind in her vehicle."

I hope he gave her abuse

Hollywood Producers use to call him "Mr Bums on Seats" If you had him in the cast you more times than not got your investment back. Hope he recovers.

MIAMI—Oscar-winner Gene Hackman was briefly hospitalized with bumps and bruises Friday after a pickup truck hit him from behind while he was riding a bicycle in the Florida Keys, his publicist said.

The 81-year-old Hackman was airlifted to a Miami hospital and released several hours later after routine tests, said publicist Susan Madore.

Hackman was riding without a helmet on an Islamorada street around 3 p.m. when the pickup hit him, throwing him onto the grassy shoulder, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report. No charges were immediately reported.

Hopefully there will be no further complications.

Glad he's okay. Really wish he would come back and end his career on a better note than that pile of shìte Ray Romano movie.

He has starred in some ace movies throughout the years and always delivers his unique style in trumps.

Gene Hackman, Sean Connerry and Kurt Russell should all come out of retirement.

    Thankfully Kurt Russell hasn't retired.

He is semi retired and seems to just travel the world with his missus. I think he is fed up with the industry.

Kurt Russell is one of those actors that you'd wonder why he never became a bigger star, but I'm kinda glad he didnt, he made some of th best cult movies of the 80's with John Carpenter.

Russel is very much right of centre politically and in Hollywood that can be a career death sentence. He's probably missed out on some great roles because of that alone, it's no wonder he's a bit disillusioned with the industry.

Gene Hackman and Sean Connery are both 81. Kurt Russell is only a young 60 year old.

Russell was a child actor so he was in the business as long as the other two.

Russell was a child actor so he was in the business as long as the other two.

I remember seeing him in an episode of The Fugitive when he would have been 13. But it doesn't change the fact that he is 21 years younger then both the other two.

    Watch The Hill!

Came across this interview earlier, doesn't sound like Hackman's too keen on returning tbh.

darn; he's such an amazing actor. any movie he's in is near guaranteed quality.

Hackman is a cool guy and has a great presence and his delivery is legendary.

however I don't think his track record of movies is that great. The French connection (1+2), Unforgiven, Mississippi Burning and the Royal Tenenbaums would be the only ones (I can think of) which stand out to any degree.

Only  It's 5 or 6 more excellent performances that I've churned out in my lifetime anyway!!

    Watch The Hill!

In fairness, he is pretty good in that. And in The Man Who Would Be King, although standing next to Michael Caine will make anyone look like an actor.

Two Oscars (nominated for five), three Golden Globes and two BAFTAs. Not too bad.
