Absolute amateur when it comes to anything like this (and it may seem a very simple task for some here), so hoping to get the help I need here...... handed laptop into local repairs after a BSOD experience!!! Laptop was so old it was decided that they would just attempt to recover my files and documents and not bother repair the laptop. SO, I brought my son's laptop down to them and they transferred everything over for me, pics, documents etc.

However, as well as the above there were also files from an Accounts Package and a Payroll Package that were saved and transferred for me. I have installed the software disks from both to this new laptop, but HOW do I correlate the files with the software programs??? Whatever way the guy in the shop explained it for me, seemed so simple but now that I'm here at home I can't figure it out! So, I have the software saved to C drive as normal. The files are saved to the desktop but it's not just ONE file obviously, there are all the diff. subfiles and component files. etc. Does anyone know what I mean, my apologies for my sub-basic knowledge, I should never have left the shop without having this done FOR me, but now I HAVE to get these up and running over the weekend for Year end accounting purposes and am in a bit of panic state! Many thanks to everyone for reading and anyone for helping!

What software is it? My Dad uses Tas Books and some other thing and afaik if you copy all the files in the Tas Books directory they backed up into the Tas Books directory on the C: drive after installing it all your stuff should be restored. I think the other package he uses is Thesaurus which is something similar. Why they don't have a proper way of saving I don't know but try that & see how you get on

Thanks yoyo. Yes, the payroll package is Thesaurus and the accounts is Quickbooks. So, let me get this straight, I literally highlight and copy and paste to the C: drive as if they were regular documents. I thought because they were component files, etc that there'd be more involved than that!!

Yeah do that and see what happens, once there the same version overwriting the program files should make no difference

Unfortunately that didn't work for the Quickbook program but was successful for the Thesaurus?!

I've tried copying and pasting, Importing files and restoring and none of those worked. So near, but yet so far. Any suggestions???

Look for an import option in Thesarus, not sure if one exists but look in the file menu, point it to the files in the thesarus directory until it picks the right one up, a huge inconvenience but it may get you back up and running, if not maybe contact Thesarus, as they would likely know how to import the content one would hope!
