Hanging baskets, should they be banned?

On the neighbouring street a short while back, I was walking along on the footpath minding my own business when 2 hanging baskets hanging from outside a house on a street(full of old style cottages) attacked me in the sense I banged my head of one and narrowly avoided the other.

Should there be rules as to the hanging of those things, like a health and safety audit or something? They are clearly not designed to not hurt the person of average height walking along the footpath

I could of been knocked out and needed hospital treatment from those flying stationary objects

Your post reads like you got knocked down by a parked car,
and it was the cars fault.

It depends on what the basket has done.

41, walking since childhood, 6'+, never in my life managed to bang my head on something as conspicuous as a basket of flowers swinging in mid-air. I don't think the hanging basket is the problem here.

    OP is a basket case.

Don't walk on pavements if you can't look where you're going!!

It sounds like it's all your fault OP to be honest

Maybe it would be more humane to shoot them?

    :(

They were on either side of a door. Think cottage side on a street where the door opens onto the footpath, the things were quite large and protruded out to head height!!

If hash is so dangerous that it must be banned then clearly hanging baskets should be banned too.

Ban umbrellas more like. I've had enough of four foot women nearly taking my eye out with them on narrow footpaths when it's barely even drizzling.

What where they doing hanging around there in the first place? That's no place for them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 770 ✭✭✭sgb

I'm a postperson and have banged my head on them loads of times

    ban them

From tapping in "ban hanging baskets" to google to see if there were many other people concerned with this horrendous problem...yeah I am that bored/ sad...and apart from the first result..this does indeed seem to be a health and safety concern...but only from issues re watering them and their weight on feeble lamposts, not people walking into them!

    Should have gone to specsavers?

People who don't look where they're walking, should they be banned?

I get your concern, but street bollards are a LOT worse.

You're walking along with your head in the air, trying to avoid hanging baskets and BAM.. your junk ends up weeping in pain.

Hanging baskets are to flowers what a zoo is to animals.

What's gives flowers the right to attack innocent bystanders?

What did we ever do to the Cherry Tree?!

Cage an animal long enough and they will go mad, who is to say that flowers do not feel the same way, hence the attack.

I was in a pub and I have also been assaulted by a hanging basket OP.
Similar story to yours except I was in a pub and pissed. The offending container had recently been fed.
Next thing I know my forehead is covered in a watery/moss peat/sh1te combo.

    Well pissed off I was.

Yes they should be banned. Especially if they result in you having to go to a hospital and being asked your religion. It's not you walking in to them that's the problem. It's the aftermath that's the problem...
    ;)

I wonder how many will get the reference...

What?? Will those 100yr old baskets be an obstacle to purely innocent pedestrians like myself?:pac:

Hanging baskets can kill I tell ya, if those 2 phukkers had knocked me out and possibly killed me, I urge you not to hang them out without a health and safety review as you know you feel for passers by like me who can be grievously hurt?!
