Got this box for a friend who is not tech friendly and I just got told it came with the european 2 pin plug!! The most ANNOYING bit the adapter is only €1.99 and they could have stated it does not come with an adapter!

not at all happy, as it is w/e and friend is in the sticks. If I was him I would send it back.

    Is it legal?

Yeah about an hour ago, box came yesterday, i told to check everything but they never checked the lead until tonight.

can they just plug it into a three pin using just 2 pins ie the pencil trick??

for only 1.99 i am gutted

and apparently it has the sat channels pre loaded so I assumed that would have to notice it was a 2 pin, grrhhh

yeah, you can plug it in like that, but if you let them know they will deffinately give you one. Probably forgot because I always get one from them.

If Satworld is in UK or Ireland then it's illegal to sell it without the 3 pin adapter screwed on/

If it's the German Satworld, then the onus is on purchaser in UK or Ireland to get an adaptor. If you are not buying mains gear in UK/Ireland assume it needs adapted unless the advert states it's for UK/Ireland (Possibly also Kenya and Malta) South Africa is still using the OLD UK system of 1940s and 1950s!

just an update, they sent out adaptor by post with no hassle but I asked for box to have the sat channels so they must have opened it etc. they are only shooting themselves in the foot for an item thats about 2 euro. very odd.

    its the irish satworld

In fairness I think you are being a bit dramatic, I have been into Sat World three seperate times to purchase 120s for persons in a development I look after and everytime it came not in the box but as a seperate item without asking, they seem to store them under the counter, where as the Arivas are in a store room, in addition all the boxes came preprogrammed from them without requesting it specifically, so I would say they must program all boxes, requested or not, I would think it's more likely just a simple misunderstanding, in my case a seperate order I recieved yesterday was missing the HDMI lead, thankfully I could supply one myself to the lady I question and as yourself a quick call sorted it out.

Clarification: I don't work for them, am not affiliated with them in anyway.

he missed a weeks telly because if it.

lives too short, onwards and upwards

In fairness it seems like a mistake, and as you said, they sent one out no problem

They are breaking the law supplying without the correct mains plug pre-fitted if they are in Ireland retailing to Ireland.

Problem there is, there isn't space in the box to fit the plug and I get the feeling it the box had arrived open in a jiffy bag or box with the plug hanging out the OP and many others would be just as unhappy.

breaking the law, irish law, like the new law on copyright.

theres a lot more going on in the world to worry about than this.

irish law is broken every day by all levels of society.

when the people who make the law, and the ones who enforce the law are seen to be breaking the law (and getting away it a lot of the time), who is going to have any respect for the law.

Id agree with that too tbh, people would wonder why they've been sold a second hand box then probably :D

No the point is they state on theIr website that box will come pre-programmed with the FTA channels at 28east so they have to open the box. Then when open they should have put the adapter on the 2 pin part. Job done. But they did not.

Will I buy more from them ... no. end of.

And as watty pointed out it's illegal what they did. The person I got box for was elderly, and if they had messed around with a 2 pin plug I would get no sympathy.

We put up with far too much c... and dont make enough noise, then they would listen.

I have bought 4 more from poland, I know it will have 2 pin plug so I got apapters from amazon.

Is it illegal to sell appliances with Schuko plugs in Ireland ?

Its not as strange a question as it might first appear as these were at onetime in widespread use in parts of Ireland and continued to be mentioned in regulations and ESB publications for decades after they had fallen out of general use although Im not sure if this is still the case.

You can but apart from the risk of damage (bent pins) to both the plug and socket Sticking a plug rated at 2.5 amps (less when not in contacts designed for it) directly into a 32 amp ring main withoug any other fusing is ....well kinda dumb

Not illegal to sell the appliance per se but my understanding it is illegal to sell without an adapter being supplied.

Have you never made a mistake? They did, they rectified it.

Now if you have a problem with your new boxes you will have to sort it out with guys in poland.

And what happens if your adapters are a week late?

would you be happy if you lost buisness over a €2 mistake witch you rectified?
