Seriously thinking about getting a pair of these:

Instead of messing about with my iPhone while skiing.

What do you think of them ?

I actually thought this was a pi$$ take. Seriuosly would you not be better not looking at your iPhone/ gps/ and just look at the mountains? Whatever floats your boat I guess but the amount of people buying gadgets for the sake of it is unreal. Clowns with helmet mounted go pros uploading absolute kak ski videos of themselves onto YouTube. Fools and their money......

are you for real? Clowns? You must be jealous or something. Recording / editing / sharing footage of me and my friends is one the highlights of my ski holiday. And not one of the people involved in a video I do would consider me a clown.

BBC's something for the weekend had them on their gadget section a while back.. They seemed impressed with them but i remember they came with a pretty hefty price tag..

Personally don't think i would bother(couldn't afford them anyway!!).. just use my tracks app on my phone..

As I said whatever floats your boat. Your vids might be class for all I know but quite simply the amount of 'all the gear no idea' skiers is staggering. Case in point:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bxtNz5eP6Oc&feature=youtube_gdata_player

video 1: kak, don't buy a go pro/iPhone app/gps goggles: Buy some lessons.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5AFzwOtTXs&feature=youtube_gdata_player

video 2: cool vid, would watch more

the op asked an opinion on the goggles. In my opinion they are a gimmick and I wouldn't buy them irrespective of whether or not I could afford them. Maybe just not a gadget man.

I spent a week in the Three Valleys with him (2 weeks after that vid) no problems. I've also seen the full unedited version of that video, there was no one else around and it could have done with another piste marker and whole thing would never have happend.

As far as skiing go pro vids go the 2nd vid you put up is standard enough loads of better videos then that on youtube and vimeo

Can't watch the vids you posted now but I take offense to being tarnished a clown for wearing a go pro.

You should probably have waited till you saw the videos before posting so. Also you haven't read my post properly. Where did I say anyone with a go pro is a clown? To clarify, in my opinion people with helmet cams, pole mounted cams etc filming themselves skidding down groomers look a bit silly. Don't get your knickers in a twist or 'take offence'.
Anyway back to OP - Anyone think the goggles are worth buying?

Why would they look silly, you don't think the half naked guys in the 2nd vid don't look silly, there ok & cool coz there off piste in powder?

The goggles don't do it for me, I tried the iPhone apps. After the initial the novelty factor I have no interest in the stats.

I had watched the videos before and enjoyed both of them. Don't think putting a go pro on your head or chest mounted makes you a more dangerous mountain user at all. In fact I hardly notice when I have mine on. There are still skiers out there that can be dangerous and doesn't take a go pro to make them dangerous.

Saw someone with some wooden contraption holding 5 GoPros the other day, not quite sure what kind of footage it would give them and didn't see them actually moving with it to be able to figure out where they were pointing it. I'm sure they will be more than happy with the results though.

As for the tracking goggles I think I might get a bit distracted by the display, although a piste map might have been handy earlier this week as I couldn't see a damn thing on the slope to know where I was going. But again that would then be dangerous as people would then be trusting the inaccurate GPS positioning and skiing off the side of narrow trails.

I was using my Garmin Edge 800 bike computer last week for tracking where I was going. Was only looking at it in the gondolas on the way back up really. Although it would have been useful at other points to know where I was as I really had no idea at some points, that wasn't a problem though as I didn't really care where I was and just kept going until I found the next lift.

Usually used for that matrix effect where subject is paused and cameras pan around. Lot of work but seriously nice effect.

Really nice effect, id say very difficult to do well though.
