    Hi,
Was thinking about going on a keycamp holiday to France. If we go it'll be on the ferry. My OH is put off the idea of going as its a lot of travelling for the 2yo. Anybody have any experience with this journey with young kids. The ferry takes bout 16 hrs, i think. Then its another 2hrs driving to get to the camp.

I think it wouldn't be too bad as we'll have a cabin and sailing through the night, so we will sleep for a lot of the journey.

    Thanks :)

I haven't done this particular trip, but have been across the North Sea many times which was a 25 hour trip. It's not too difficult at all, bring books, colouring pencils and paper, favourite toys (the smaller the better) and maybe a portable dvd if they have a favourite cartoon (and what two year old doesn't!). There may well be entertainment for them and undoubtedly other toddlers to make friends with. Otherwise, let them explore their surroundings in a safe manner, outside and in.

The only thing to watch out for is going up and down stairs if the weather is any way bad. Remember, one had for the ship and one hand for yourself!

    Hi there,

Did it when my brother was that age about 16 years ago. Always went to France, baby didn't stop the family and always worked out perfectedly. As you saw, you're asleep for most of the boat journey. We weren't a mad adventerous family btw, this was the only holiday each year.

Anyway, that was then. This year myself and my wife are taking our little lad, who'll be two at the end of the hol, to France on a trip just like you are saying. We're going Rosslare to Cherbourg, then driving to Carnac. It'll be our first trip abroad but have had this idea of a family holdiay there from before we even had him. So handy with Keycamp how you can book the buggy, high chair, baby gate, baby bath etc for quite cheaply.

If you have any more queries, feel free to contact me.

Thanks for the replies. Kind of expected those answers. I think she'd have great fun! Hopefully these will sway the OH to go!

We did it two years ago, our kid was about 14 months old, ferry from rosslare to cherbourg and 5 hour drive to Sables DOlone where we stayed first week.

Second week we stayed near Tours in Loire Valley.

We would never split it up again, stay the whole time in the same place is my only advice, but the driveing etc was grand.

This year our girl will be almost 3 and our new addition wont even be 1 when we head off on the boat again. This time heading south France, but the 2 weeks will be in the same place - -wherever that will be!
