What LED-lit LCD TVs are available on the Irish market that are full array as opposed to edge lit?

Either none of the big shops have any or they don't say on their websites.

They are effectively gone OP. Remember, 95% of perspective tv buyers in this country don't have one iota of a clue about any of the tech in the tvs they buy. To the average man, the only difference between an lcd and a led is the led is slimmer. A proper back lit LED would not be as slim as an edge lit model. People are superficial, they are not going to pay extra for a tv that is not as good looking but yet has superior picture quality.

Tis a shame, logically, a back lit led will have better picture quality, although they are still more expensive to produce. Samsung had fine range of back lit led's a few years ago but then they themselves brought out their own edge lite led models and badged them "led" which effectively killed back lit led's

Well what defines "picture quality"?! I mean, there's use value and then there's spending a whole pile of money of a huge TV to get the best picture and barely using it! (At least in optimum conditions to squeeze your best PQ out of it!)

I'm just wondering about the differences out there - and even what is available. I might get a 32" LCD or I might a 32" LED edge-lit LCD or I might try and find a full array backlit LED LCDTV. At 32" at present - which is about the size I am set on - I'm thinking of just going for something within my price range and not holding out for full array.

Rec 709 , if a set cannot be calibrated to rec 709 , its basically a piece of crap ,

See, even Sony is giving on proper led's..

That article also explains, pretty simply, why a proper led will always be better than an edge lit led.

OP, in your case, why not look at a highish spec samsung 32". Edge LED i know but a damn nice tv at that, and not outrageously expensive either.Very good black level, decent motion resolution and a very very nice looking set(Despite i was the one talking about people being superficial earlier )

I also seeing your point about spending too much too. Over the weekend, i had the pleasure of picking out a new tv for the sister and her boyfriend, who had just moved into a new place. These are total technical noobs so i took a pragmatic view on it and i got them a samsung 40" led(40D5003) for 530€. In the same shop, the top spec Samsung 40" was 1300€(40D8000), two and a half times the cost of the one we got. Questionable value for money considering those figures. The tv i got them will do very nicely, it still has a great picture and the slimness etc.. Reason i didnt recommend them a plasma(Which i agree do have better PQ) is because i didnt want to have to explain screen burn, the much higher power consumption, as well as the fact that plasma is a lot less versatile when it comes to lighting conditions. My main point being that IMHO, it could only be possibly justifiable going for a really expensive set if you're truly going to appreciate the difference, otherwise its a waste of money. If not, then make a well judged decision on a cheaper set and enjoy your new set.

What is your budget in any case OP? Sure we can try and make some use of this thread rather than lambasting the loss of proper led sets:p

I have about €400 max to spend here. I am going no bigger than 32".

    What is a "high-spec" Samsung?

What's the word on LG? Good, bad indifferent?
