It's got no storage capacity. You need to attach your HDD or whatever to it

If it had wifi, I'd buy it in a heart beat

    I bought one of these things a few weeks ago;

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cyclone-Micro-MultiMedia-Player-Adaptor/dp/B00534L3B8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1326456389&sr=8-2

perfect for what I wanted, plays anything you throw at it in full HD and I already had the hard drive.

I can vouch for the quality of this one, so far at least.

    P.S. It's tiny!

I will be buying a media player soon but I wouldn't buy this one as dts is not listed as supported unless they omitted it on the list which they sometimes do.

I have one of these for over a year now and with regular use I've had very little trouble so would definately recommend it.

Funnily enough as soon as i seen the title i said i would drop in and recommend the cyclone but the one you can put a harddrive in.

Bought 3 for relatives and they do the job nicely.

Fill them up with kids films and you have yourself the best present ever.

Take a small drive from an old pc or something. 100gb is more than enough for 100s of disney etc.. films.

I've actually connected a 1TB drive to mine and it works ok

I have the cyclone for a few years now. Think I have the cyclone 1.

They are pretty good but are so light weight that sometimes the power lead slips out. Maybe it’s just my one but this unit looks a little sturdier which might be a good thing!

wow it even does MKV. hard enough to find ones that do MKV. (or it was when I bought my Asus O!Play HD2 last year)

@tallon some of those boxes support wifi dongles, although I can't find anything on this particular make / model.

wifi is fairly slow for transferring stuff anyway, better to use Ethernet or USB

Got this one for crimbo from amazon too. Very good and much cheaper then the model above.

Two quick questions re: the cyclone

Any idea what the max USB / SD card size it can handle is?
Also, does it come with a remote?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,632 ✭✭✭✭okidoki987

    Cyclone is brilliant.
Cheap Tesco 8gb stick will take about 20 films.
    Perfect for going away.

Is this an alternative to the WD media player

cant remember a size limit tbh, yes it does come with a remote.

also meant to say I bought it off ebay at the time because it worked out a bit cheaper after postage

Recognises every format I've thrown at it on a 2TB HDD & a 16GB USB Key with great HD picture. The SD card requires FAT32 format - so you've a 4GB file limitation.

The remote has a narrow funnel and can be pernickity - placing the player on a reflective surface (eg. shiny dvd player) gives more latitude.

Appears a bit more compact/portable than the Hama and superior sound formats (ie. includes DTS & 5.1). Just Media had the Sumvision for €39 pick up in Dublin before Christmas but look out of stock ATM. Like other users recommend highly ... the tech savage in me can't quite believe what comes out of such a tiny box and at that price too ;)

Have you noticed it cutting out every once in a while, like going blank and then coming back?

This one does. I've backed up DVDs and Blurays to it. it has WiFi. Streams from main PC if required. HDMI out. In short - everything. Wonderful piece of kit.

Can any of these work with netflix? I have that small cyclone and it's the business. Just looking for one now that I can get netflix etc on

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 508 ✭✭✭Block (8

From what I read the micro 2+ outputs dts in mono

All it should need is firmware update but who knows

If you want netflix go for the western digital posted by basquille he seems to be a fan

Anyone got a cheap media player that can handle large MKV files with DTS. I have a number of 3D mkvs which I want to play and the largest is 14GB I think and they are all mkvs, some are DTS audio and some have multiple subtitles and audio tracks. So I'd like the player to be able to switch between audio tracks too.

This could be over USB but I would prefer LAN support.

    Hi guys,

I picked up this last year

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Designer-Habitat-Nano-3-0-Flashdrives/dp/B005ERNITE/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1326891971&sr=1-1

I was looking at the Cyclone, but had read bad reports about the remote...this Nano device is a grand bit of kit, and very much on the lower end of the budget.

I wasn't interested in spending big money on Popcorn, or O Play or anything...didn't need streaming over wifi etc.

I just wanted something that I could play movies off a usb device with...and this does the job; I've run mkv and avi on it and no problems with it so far! It's got a pretty basic menu system, but thats what you would expect at this price; so if you're looking for something cheap and functional then I'd consider this.

What's the best value media player that can connect to Netflix and catch up TV (flash based like RTE player)? Doesn't need to have a hard drive as I have a 500GB portable one. Netflix is not a must but I am basically trying to expand what I can watch on my bedroom TV as I only have Saorview and I don't want to pay for sky multiroom. I have a lot of movies backed up on my hard drive but I need something so I can watch streamed TV series etc, I know there are apps that you can download but would they work on these devices? Don't really care if its Full HD as the TV is only 19" HD Ready.

    Any suggestions are most appreciated!

Highly recommend the cyclone, have 2 myself and have bought about another 12 for friends/family. No complaints from anyone, super piece of equipment (and so tiny and portable).

I generally use my mine off a 500GB portable HD.

    Two quick points:

I have heard bad reports of people buying cloned cyclones - they tend to be a bit cheaper and writing is slightly different. If you go to amazon, you will get the real thing (not necessarily from amazon itself though).
I have had the Mk1 and now the Mk2 and the remote control issue has pretty much disappeared on the Mk2.

Spend another tenner on the site gets you free delivery.

I managed to get as far as Paypal but then trying to confirm the order I got this error from Paypal:

At this time, we are unable to process your request. Please return to ROK MEMORY LIMITED and try another option.

I want to use the device as a menu display in a cafe, I know it says the video res is 1080p but can anyone confirm if still photos will display at 1920x1080 res? And would text/images be nice and sharp for this purpose?

Wish I seen that 5% code yesterday afternoon.. oh well, picked one up with the HDMI.

Btw, Those on about the cyclone, if you look at the PDF for this, it actually shows the cyclone, so appears this is just a rebadge.:)

Well the PDF shows the early model of the Cyclone, not the latest 2+ . So I wonder which it's actually a clone of, anyone know? Not sure what the differences are in specs.
